Good Monday Morning!

Good Monday Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks!

News

It's that time of year already folks! Tis the season will be upon us in no time, and with that comes our annual project in partnership with Operation Ward 57. We will adopt a Wounded Warrior Family for the Holidays!

Our application has been sent, and it is under review now by Operation Ward 57, to receive our family for the 2017 Holidays. Stay tune, we'll be notified around the first week of November who our family is. For our new folks, please see the following links to find out what we do during the Christmas Season here on The Patriot Woodworker.

UPDATE: We have our family! We have been assigned a Warrior Family for the Holidays. Just a brief run down before the official introduction, we will be providing a Christmas for a Gold Star widow and her 2 children. This is truly an honor that we have been chosen to help provide for this single mother of two, and in turn, to honor her husband who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Stay tuned, once the details of the project are ironed out, you will all be notified.

A lathe for turning spirals, as commonly seen on table legs in the "Jacobean" or "Barley sugar" reproduction styles, particularly popular in the 1920s.

Cutting is done by a small rotating cutter in a tilted head. As the work revolves slowly in the lathe, a leadscrew (as for a screwcutting lathe) or in this case a rack arrangement traverses the workpiece axially, beneath the fixed cutter.

Nothing new.   Still recouperating.   Long story.

Hope all are well.  :)

Toad, hope your recuperation is going well. If you don't mind, tell us the story.

We're still in Tucson. Delayed departure so we could pick up some stuff when the stores open. Plus, Phyl needs her Costco fix.

Son tutored me on the laser engraver. Still needs some tweaking but looks like it's going to be a fun toy. Tomorrow, I'll set up an area to play with it. Makes a lot of smoke so, it needs ventilation. Can't get wifi in the shop so the back patio will be the best...for now.

Didn't have to work at the shooting range this morning so I'm in the shop. Got 7 Edge Grain Cutting Boards glued and waiting on the glue to dry.

I also got a large piece of White Oak cut for a mantle. It is 12" deep, 4 3/4" high and 65" long. Just going to hand sand it to knock off the loose splinters and leave the saw marks. Thankfully I don't have to hang it.

I also have someone coming today as soon as it stops raining to pick up the Poplar that I planed for them.

And this is just the start of the week.

Back to working on lathe stuff. getting ready for a show in November and thinking of Christmas.

Working on stock for a Veteran's Day holiday show.   And a nativity for church.

Went to the doctor today and it was all good news.  I went under the knife to have the urethra opened up so I could pee.  It closes up due to an enlarged prostate.  When he got in there he found a mass of tissue the size of a tennis ball in the bladder.  He said in a normal operation 15 or 16 grams of tissue are removed and that he removed 66 grams of tissue form me and I had been thinking that can't be good.  He sent it all out to be tested and the results were clear.  No cancer and a clean bill of health for me.  The best part is the operation fixed the problem and I can pee like I did when I was 20 years old.  All in all it is a great day.

Got the clearance to do what I please and can get back in the shop.

I did get my furnace hung in the shop this past weekend, along with the flue. Not wired (power or thermostat) yet and no gas yet, but now I can get the attic insulated.

Deer Hunting all weekend. Not sure what this week will bring. Last weekend of deer season next weekend.

I haven't got to go yet, but my son has already taken two does with his bow.

Ron, it's a 1.6 watt toy I bought from Gear Best, direct from China. I bought it to experiment with. I appears to do the job but there's a couple minor things I have to work out.

If I can make it do what I want, I'll be getting a much larger one with more capability and speed.

Spot on the arm? Just a cyst sort of thing...healing up, now.   Got a few block planes cleaned up.   Weather is going to be nasty all week.   Lung Function Test Thursday morning.    Same old, same old.
