September 8, 20178 yr Popular Post Here we are another Friday and another hurricane bearing down on part of the country. Let' be praying for those in the path and hope they are get to safety. We we had a nice mini vacation to the smoky mountains last weekend. First time in the mountains for my 11 year old granddaughter. We saw a bear in Cades Cove and she was so excited she forgot to push the button on the camera to take a picture. Instead of buck dealer it was bear fever. Well this week I got a batch of cutting boards ready for the final sander and mineral oil soaking. I'll be bringing a load of Poplar from the wood stash tomorrow for a table I'm working on. I have a few other projects in the queue but not sure how far I will get. I've got spend some time with John Deere at some point this weekend. So how about you all, what's on your agenda this weekend?
September 9, 20178 yr wow, you have some serious clamps there. Just out of curiosity, what type of glue do you use on your boards? Also, I like the little folding table in the background.
September 9, 20178 yr Very nice looking cutting boards John. I'm currently about half way done staining about 130 ft of a 6ft tall fencing. There are 1" X 8"s staggered on both sides of the fence, so I'm removing the 1" X's on one side to get in between. Sanding it all, then two coats of solid color stain. It takes me about 1&1/2 to 2 days to do a 8 ft section. It has turned out to be quite a job, especially when it's warm and humid out. I want it done this year, hopefully the weather and life cooperate. Edited September 9, 20178 yr by CharlieL
September 9, 20178 yr We will be getting our ac replaced tomorrow. After that, the remodel in the shop continues
September 9, 20178 yr Got the lacquer on tops for 26 boxes I have been working on . Tomorrow will fit tops to boxes and that will be 56 complete. Then I start on 20 plaques . All of this from church pews for a fund raising .
September 9, 20178 yr Popular Post This week got crazy busy. On Wednesday, I had a gentleman stop by the shop with a couple of pictures of a cradle that he had built about 25 years ago and wanted me to duplicate it. After a phone call to the cradle's current owner (his daughter) I got enough measurements to build another one so this weekend I'll be spending time with Mr. Sketchup. The cradle has 6" square raised panels so they'll get made first. Tonight, we stopped by the grocery on the way home from a local football game. By the time I walked out, I had an order for a baseball bat rack and a quilt rack. The business is nice but it sure is putting a crimp on my stock building for a Veteran's Day show.
September 9, 20178 yr Got into making some retractable pens this week. Will continue making more this weekend. Time permitting of course.
September 9, 20178 yr Today was another experiment. Tried to add India ink to Bondo. Fail! Ah, well. Ya never know till ya try. The joys of working with Mesquite. The piece is the case's inside and will be covered with upholstery, anyway. Tomorrow, it's back to resin for the show side. I'm kinda bummed, though. Bondo is so cheap and easy.

Sounds like you had a fun time in the Smokey's again; cool your grand-daughter got to see a bear. Our daughter was about the same age and also saw her first in Cades Cove. Shuttle service commenced last night at 11:30 PM...continued at 7:30 AM this AM...two more trips yet today. Last was just made 3:10PM I may try to hit a few yard/garage sales in between. Gas priced have soared this week. Trimmed a row of spirea hedges yesterday, cleaned out wild sapling growth; more of the same the remainder of the weekend plus debris clean-up. I've been refurbishing some recent rust rescues so hope to get some more time in on that. Edited September 9, 20178 yr by Grandpadave52
September 9, 20178 yr Spoke with Charles Neil about the Bondo fiasco. He set me straight. Who knew water based ink wouldn't work with Bondo? Duh. Chas. Suggested Transtint or artist's acrylic paints. Will try both and, some Rit powder. Just might stumble on to something. But, chemistry class is dismissed until this project is done.

September 9, 20178 yr Author I made a trip over to the wood stash today and it looks like someone tried to get in and get some of the prize. It it must have been Seal Team 6 that took them out with presision tactics. Should have rode the donkeys!!
