Bibliochaise AKA Bookshelf Chair - The Build

Featured Replies

That's one HUGE piece. Can you imagine the weight when it's full of books? Hope she's got a PERMANENT place for it.

Great job, my friend.

Great job, my friend.

I built a lot of it from scraps from my school shelf build so I'm not sure how much plywood is actually there but I'd guess at least 2 1/2 sheets of 3/4" baltic birch.  I'm putting it on 6 - 2 1/2" slides but it still won't move easily.

Nice work, Ron. Can't wait to see it finished.

Yes sir.  I have a pair of heavy 16" slides that it will travel on.  BTW, I'm still regreting not adding a secret compartment somewhere.

Magnetic push button catch under the seat.

You could still do it in the bottom or back of one of the drawers.

I'm out of room behind the drawer but I have about 4 inches above the  drawer to play with

Good idea, that would be ideal.

Even a false bottom in part/all of a drawer, the drawers are fairly deep.

Great job Ron...I like your design much better.

Are you going to be able to get it out of the shop?

That is more a throne than a simple chair!

Yeah, but not by myself.

False bottom, yes!

Hi Ron great construction, thanks for sharing.

I have some suggestions if you are not upolstering this chair.  I would add some radius to the inside of the arm rests and the back.

That way the body siting in the chair is not rubbing on hard corners.  The use of pocket screws is a great idea even if glued in dadoes to act as clamps.  For the ones that show you may want to hide them or put in fillers.  I assume you will use edge banding for all the exposed plywood edges.

I cannot wait (but will have to) to see the finished product.

Well, the chair is in its new home and has a very happy owner.  As promised, here are pictures of the finished product and Rylee.21105711_1712045538807817_485715030909226596_n.jpg21106866_1712045528807818_3712101367361302919_n.jpg

Turned out great Ron, looks like a very happy customer too!

Ron, while I have to say I wasn't much of a fan of the original idea, your concept knocked it out of the park.

Turned out great and obviously a very happy young man received a unique piece of furniture.

BTW, I hope you signed/ dated it somewhere?

Oh yeah.  I signed and dated it on the bottom.

AWESOME!
