June 9, 20179 yr Popular Post I finished finishing the drop leaf table this week and got it delivered. The table is just over 100 years old and had been painted white. Got all the paint off and applied a Standard Brown Walnut dye then sprayed a couple of coats of Shellac and then four coats of General Finishes Enduro-Var. i didnt assemble it because the where picking it up in a car. As for my weekend end there will be a little time with John Deere, stacking some lumber and then picking up a load of Red Elm. I hope to get a little shop time in but I my be at the barn stacking lumber all weekend with the donkeys. So so what is on your agenda? We love to see your projects and hear about your weekend plans. Post those pictures and share with us your projects. Whatever you do this weekend have fun and be safe!!
June 9, 20179 yr Popular Post Great Re-finish on the table, John. That looks really nice. I will be by to help you with the lumber and pick up some I met my ankle surgeon today. He said, unless I have problems or issues, I do not have to see him again and I can stop PT. YAY!!!!!! 16 weeks and 3 days since surgery. I should still wear my ankle brace as I need it, slowly weaning off of it unless I think I am going to need the extra stabilization. I have a subcontractor working on a project tomorrow, so I will have to check on them in the AM, maybe later in the day. Other than that, I plan to be in the shop. We will have to see what the wife and life throws at me.
June 9, 20179 yr Top notch job on that refinish, John! Must have been quite a bit of work getting the paint off of those legs!
June 9, 20179 yr Nice job on that table John. It amazes me sometimes what people will paint! I've got the demo for next months wood turning meeting so I've started putting that together. I will make several versions of the demo, create notes, references, material and hardware sources, etc. etc. Other than that, not much happening in my shop, 90 degrees plus are predicted for next week so shop time will be limited for sure. Steve

I thought I could put them on the lathe and sand but I could never find a center. It's like they were turned off center. I used a dentist pick to get paint out of some of the rings.

June 10, 20179 yr Nice refinish on the table John!! Nothing in the plans for anything in the shop this weekend. Got a family reunion on my wife's side to go to. At least I got in the shop alittle bit this week to clean the bench off. Kelly glad to hear of the great progress that you are having with your ankle.
June 10, 20179 yr John, did you make the customer sign an oath in blood they would NEVER paint the table again? Great job on the refinish...Did you get to crack off a few rounds with the "gatling gun" this AM? Great news @Chips N Dust...happy to hear everything has gone so well and recovery is complete...You probably should stay off the water/snow skis for a while yet Finished first 3+ acres of mowing this PM...1 acre to go tomorrow then whack some weeds. I also hit a couple of yard sales this AM between swim practice shuttles. Nothing great...bought a 8 gal (3 hp) Craftsman shop vac for $10..the 2-/12" hose, extension and attachments were worth that. I'll probably dedicate it to my OSS; Also a mid 70's Craftsman router case (perfect for my 1974 router), collet wrench and base plate for a buck and a prize "collectors" item from the mid 70's...an all steel chrome plated, magnetic paper clip with the Massey-Ferguson logo and the dealer (long gone) name for a whopping 75 cents. I'm not a Massey guy, but remember this dealership about 40 miles to our North. Remainder of weekend TBD.
June 10, 20179 yr That dye match did a really nice job, John. BTW, same some red elm for me. Last night we picked up my daughter and SIL from a 10 day vacation in Hawaii so our house is once again quiest and grandchildless. Saturday I'm building stock for July shows and resting. Monday, we begin laying tile in our entryway, kitchen and utility room so I'm resting up a bit for that. Fortunately, I have a friend that is a retired flooring contractor and he'll be running the wet saw while I lay the tile. Should be an interesting day.
June 10, 20179 yr If it is nice I'll be outside if it rains I be in the shop. Don't want it to rain. The shop needs tools put away and cleaned.

Math isn't my strong suit. Glad I remembered that 1971 was the year. From there, it was easy....on the calculator. Thanks for the caution, Dave. Edited June 10, 20179 yr by Gene Howe
