May 28, 20179 yr Popular Post Way back in Oct. I posted that I'd purchased a Delta midi lathe, the 46-460. Well finally today I gave it a test run, I was amazed at how quiet this lathe is, was turning at about 3K and couldn't really hear it run. Wheeled it out of my garage and was turning in my driveway. Only a very small project, a two piece top, but I was impressed with the machine. If Delta makes a mobility kit for this lathe I haven't found it. I wanted something that would easy to use and easy to remove. Had some scrap OSB and spare casters laying around and came up with this idea. Rube Goldbergish for sure but it seemed to work okay. I only have to move this lathe about 15 feet to use it, any more than that and I would probably put a cargo strap around the assembly, or maybe a bar clamp. They just slide on the base, the lathe is light enough it's easy for one guy to install or remove them. Steve
May 28, 20179 yr Popular Post Great idea Steve. Fortunately I have room in the shop for the 3 lathes, but this might help when I load it up next weekend for hands on with Jimmy Clewes.

If that was supposed to be a stealth gloat, it wasn't all that stealthy! Color me jealous and congrats! Steve
May 28, 20179 yr Thats using your thinking cap, I like that idea. I don't have a lathe, but might adapt that to some other tool. Looks like a good little lathe. Herb
May 28, 20179 yr Very nice. I have seen a lot of great reviews for that lathe. Glad you are happy with it.
May 29, 20179 yr You will be surprised how much it will do. I've had mine a years now and love it. It is my go to lathe unless I want to do something big. Too bad Delta is treading on rocky terrain. The have a real gem there.
June 5, 20179 yr Missed the one Steve. I'd forgotten about your new toy. Great idea on the mobility attachment...simple but very effective. Already has my mind churning on how to adapt to other bases. Thanks!! If you're concerned about accidental disengagement, what about adding some screw eyes, then using a couple of bungee cords on the diagonal; or simply drilling holes on the cross supports and using bungees from side-to side...cheap and easy to connect/disconnect...just a couple of thoughts that fell out of my head tonight. Oh, BTW, glad to hear you're happy with the lathe...looking forward to seeing what "turns up" from it here!
