Or, was he working in their manufacturing shop? Look down this about where the last picture of Hartzell is (or just search on Shopsmith) http://www.hartzell.com/recent-news/110-scott-phillips-2.html

Yep, that's how they used to sell them -- demos at fairs, malls, other shows, etc. I had a friend that was a demonstrator and sold a lot of them, but for some reason he got laid off???e SS has fallen on hard times lately. I drive by what used to be their factory. It's in the same building but shrunk to a fraction of its original footprint.

Relevant text: "He [Scott] worked with Jim Hartzell Sr. and Jim Hartzell Jr. at American Woodcrafters – retail store. He realized while working there that there was a need to educate people in woodworking. A company called Shopsmith approached Scott and offered him a job as a senior product manager. Scott agreed and then became their marketing director. Scott reorganized Shopsmith to be geared towards the hobbyist market not the industrialist market. Scott left Shopsmith in the early 90's. Scott still saw a void in educating people on woodworking. There was a downturn in woodworking in high schools. He wanted to educate people in specialty woodworking. Scott's passion for woodworking made him want to educate as many people as he could."
May 30, 20179 yr I don't know how I missed this topic.Decided to read it today and find it interesting. Scott was one of my shows to watch along with Norm. I've never owned a ShopSmith but have seen it demonstrated. It seemed like a tool that I had to have, but as I gradually accumulated more tools, it became less necessary. Dave,Too many pain pills. My Doc discouraged using them because they lead to other problems by themselves. I'm down to a baby asprin in the morning for the heart, and it's Tylenol, no more than 6 in a day, for whatever pains. No, it doesn't always stop the pains, but it makes them tolerable. And how do you get a whole 15 minutes with the doctor ? 10 minutes MAX around here. Teaching can be fun, and rewarding, if your students want to learn what you offer. I finished a 4 year apprenticeship as welder and after several years in the field as a certified welder, I was asked to teach, both journeymen welders and apprentices, how to weld various metals in plate and pipe in all positions..I was able to teach at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 2 years and for a time at the New Hampshire Vocational College.I taught MMA (Stick welding), TIG (tungsten Inert Gas) and Oxy Acetylene welding. Some men/women were easily taught while others struggled, but all of my students seemed to want to excel.. I never felt more of a sense of accomplishment than when my students passed their certification tests, and many personally thanked me. Edited May 30, 20179 yr by It Was Al B
May 30, 20179 yr I always got a SNORK when the demonstrators, running through their canned patter, show how to cut a compound miter. Set the table to this angle, the miter gauge to that angle and voila! They'd hold up their compound miter joint and show how well it went together. Any idiot could make one compound miter corner, let's see you make 4 for a tray or picture frame that all fit together without gaps.

I ask as many questions as I can possibly conjure and talk really SLOW to drag it out as much as possible Fifteen minutes (max) is the standard established by the 'new' health network for all GP's in our community. We've lost a lot of really good, long standing doctors as a result.

So went to a different provider and they only had one male doctor, mostly female doctors now. The policy here is if you need to see a doctor right now, go to the urgent care unit or if it is after hours go to ER. Otherwise get an appointment and wait for 2 -3 weeks. Herb

Pretty much the same here Herb...Our network does offer a weekend clinic from 10A-2P...I honestly feel I get better care through there, don't wait as long and stand a pretty good chance of seeing my own doctor or at least his office colleague. The group I'd doctored with for almost 45 years has been decimated by the new network...in fact, that office will be closed and those that remained will be reallocated to other network practices. Other local practices have been closed with the doctors being moved to the hospital as "hospitalists" or moving their practice to an Indy network that has recently placed a facility here or leaving the area all together. My GP of over 20 years "retired" when all of this started but was very open to me about what was happening...he did not like it...he has resumed on a part-time basis with the Indy network. The doctor who had replaced him as my GP left the area after 4 years with the network...both he & his wife were physicians in the same office (my old office)...rumor has it they were tired of the BS, the 15 minutes policy and quest for the almighty dollar versus patient care...in fact (insider info) they were "counseled" several times by administration for exceeding 15 minutes/patient...

Pretty much describes the situation here too. Another example of Accountants taking over the business. Herb
