May 21, 20179 yr Just saw the American Woodshop episode from this season where dufus builds a wall hung desk. Anyway, the part that made me think of you was his field trip to a school that teaches hand tool use. Called Little Miami Handworks, it's in Bellbrook (just outside of Dayton OH, for you out of state guys) and if you ever get bored with life, you could teach the same thing...they have nothing on your talents. They did have a slightly larger shop, but for what they charge they can afford it.
May 21, 20179 yr Who's the doofus? Could it be "Mr. Rogers visits the woodshop?" Any idea who the instructors are? Did you know Scott used to work at Shopsmith? Do you know Ron Herman from Columbus? He has a company that does historic building renovations and from what I can tell, mostly hand tools.http://www.popularwoodworking.com/tools/woodworking-hand-tools/ron-hermans-shop About 30 minutes from me. May 21, 20179 yr Didn't know Scott worked for SS. Never saw him in any of their old videos. He must've been a behind the scenes guy. Or, was he working in their manufacturing shop?
May 21, 20179 yr Watched the video....painfully. Scott still tries to sell stuff, doesn't he... Was doing the handplane thing the other day.....removing saw marks on the resawn Pine.
May 21, 20179 yr Our local "pledge drive once a month" PBS station is down to one woodworking show- Woodsmith Shop.
May 21, 20179 yr Author I watch Scott's show because it's one of 2 I can get (Rough Cut the other one). I know nothing about this school, having just learned of it's existence on this show. Actually I'm a little surprised it's there, I wouldn't have thought that would be something in demand around Dayton.....but what do I know? One thing about the guy in that school, you have to admire that 12' or so long workbench he had. I'm not sure what to say about Scott working for SS, maybe he was doing the shopping center demos at one time (?). Everyone that knows him well (I've met him once or twice, but don't know him that well) insists that he is a talented woodworker. I don't challenge that, I just wish he would demonstrate it on his show.

I'm constantly amazed he hasn't served a finger or hand or??? It seems to me he goes at everything like he's killing snakes and just seems rattled all the time the way he slam bangs things around...Scares me. IMHO, he has produced some nice pieces but he's also produced some cr** too!

May 21, 20179 yr Popular Post A Paul Sellers I am not. Wouldn't know where to begin... As for that hand plane stuff... After the resaw, one side didn't look too bad, the other? This is what the bandsaw leaves. Stuff is also full of knots. Do I get out the big plane? Note how this is too long for the work.. This is a #5-1/4 size, what Millers Falls called a #11. I can skew the plane slightly, plenty of room on the piece. Doesn't take all that long to do 6 boards. As long as you read the grain, there is no tearout, too. Still have a few others to do, after I saw them to size.

Maybe I just picked up on it, but the last couple of Paul's videos that I've watched he's revealing his dry sense of humor. I remember once, though, he patted his stomach and called it "stored energy."
May 23, 20179 yr Paul can also be a bit of a grouch, too. My "stored energy" comes from a can/bottle of Mountain Dew....when the back starts hurting, then I stop for the day....

Well except for a couple of crowns Dave taking both aspirin and Ibuprofen or any other NSAID counteract one another as they both act at the same site in the body. It is like 2 horses at a one horse trough....only one gets fed. And this reduces the effect of the one getting in first also. Note do not mix pain killers ....even OTC .

Both my doctor & NP review with me every time I'm in (at least every 6 mo.) my medications OTC and prescription and they are aware of my regiment. They have never discussed effects (good, bad or otherwise) of this routine. Of course that is in their "15 minute time allotment" they spend with me. I'll be sure to force the discussion in July during my next scheduled appointment. Thanks for the advice & concern.
