May 9, 20179 yr I am looking at two different lathes. I am looking at the Delta 46-460 and the Rikon 70-220VS. They both have 12.5 swing over the bed, 1hp motor, 5 year warranty, same price and same speed ranges. The Rikon can turn a 20 inch spindle and I think the Delta is only 16 inches. I would like to hear the good and bad from anybody that has experience with one of these lathes. I am leaning toward the Rikon because it is a little longer.
May 9, 20179 yr has Delta improved their CS and part availability??? unless the answer is an astounding yes... I'd steer clear of them...
May 9, 20179 yr Delta was the biggest and baddest when I bought mine. Given your observations and I was looking to buy today? I would probably go with the Rikon since Delta seems to not have a well defined business plan. Don't get me wrong the Delta 46-460 is a great lathe and I have had great success with mine until Mother Nature thought she needed to get involved. Mine is up and running with parts purchased through Delta/Biesemeyer.

May 13, 20179 yr Author Popular Post I got the lathe today. I went with the Rikon 70-220vsr. Woodcraft had them for $100 off. Got it put together and on the bench. It is very solid, smooth and quiet. I think I will leave the old Jet set up with my buffing system. I don't have time to make anything tonight. I will give it a try tomorrow.

May 15, 20179 yr Sweet...good choice for what I know. I do think Rikon makes some great products for the price point regardless of the tool.

May 15, 20179 yr Author Popular Post I turned a seam ripper today. I tried turning a bowl but am having trouble with the chuck not holding the wood. I made a new thread for that.
