Things kinda got busy here at the shop and I had two back to back shows on a Friday so I had to get Ron to post a Friday post for me. Tomorrow will be three months since my knee replacement and I saw the Dr. a week ago and he was pleased with the outcome and my recovery. He pretty much told me to start doing what I wanted to but to remember to listen to my body. So for now I am going strong!

My son and wife were with me in the shop over the weekend to help me get out an order of four Big Green Egg tables made of cedar. I got the boards all run for two tables while they were working on assembly and sanding of two tables.

Yesterday I finished sanding the last one and got them out of the shop and delivered.

When I got home, I finished unloaded some Walnut and Cedar I had picked up Saturday at the saw mill.

Last night I got six cutting boards cut out and today I will start jointing, planing, cutting to final and gluing them up. Busy time in the shop and I love it.

I see by all the post I have some catching up to do. I am glad to see all of you getting to work in your shop and make some wonderful projects.

Well I'll check back later, but the jointer is calling my name.

Have fun and work safe.

Glad to hear that your doctor released you for full fun and enjoyment in the shop (and everywhere else)! You have been pretty busy in the shop, so I guess I will let it slide that you had Ron cover for you on Friday:P

Glad the knee is healed and functioning. Remember the exercises that got you where you are and  don't be afraid to practice them from time to time. My replacements are over 20 years old and still working well. No kneeling on hard surfaces.

Love the look of that cedar. MAN, I can smell it from here. ^_^

Glad to hear that your back and back in the shop

Them are some nice looking tables. I must admit I've not heard of the Big Green Egg until your post.

You got building those tables down to a science!  Looks like a couple of those walnut boards will make some fine propellers :)

Good to see you're up and running.  Glad the nee job worked well for you.

Thats a new one on me, never heard of a Big Green Egg before. Had to google it, fantastic!

You did a good job on those tables, love that cedar.

Yeah, a few of them went to the burn pile. I did cut some of it up last night for the cutting boards and under the gray it was beautiful. I got it pretty cheap so a few bad boards won't hurt.

The Big Green Egg Smoker/grills are huge around here. There are several other brands and we make tables for them, but the Green Eggs keep me busy. I got an order for another one this week so when I finish the cutting boards I'll start cutting out another one.

For sure on the exercises. He told me to stay on the stationary bike so I ride it everyday, just don't go anywhere!

who are you?  papers please! :)

sadly, there is no local source of rough lumber here, have to drive an hour to Albuquerque to get anything beyond what home depot carries.

Welcome home Pilgrim...Glad to have you back among us and happy to hear/see business is booming and the knee is working like it "ourght" too!:P

Beautiful cedar...I'll continually amazed at the volume, quality variety and reasonable cost of the lumber you always seem to have access. Looking forward to you getting back in the daily mix and keeping us updated on the Moody Shop Chronicles...;)

The cedar was 1.50/bf. That is the most I have paid for Cedar. Usually runs .85 to 1.00/ bf. The walnut was a stack he had that someone didn't pick up. It was about 300/bf I gave him $200.00 for it. The few boards on the top were not too good but everything down was good.

There are three saw mills within 10 miles of my house. Makes it nice for getting lumber. I can call them and have it cut however I want.

That's insane...what cedar I've seen advertised on CL within 75 mile radius here usually is $2.50-$4.50/bf...most all cut with portable band-saws and air dried...Same with the walnut except prices in the neighborhood of $4.00-$6.50/bf...Years ago we had several small saw-mills close...one was less than 2 mile away and a half dozen less than 20 miles...all but one gone now and they aren't too keen dealing in small quantities, i.e. less than 500/bf of same species. You're very fortunate..

You you need to make a visit to Alabama. I think I could help you out. Bring a trailer.

If if I take the tree to the mill they cut it for me st .20/bf. I'm picking up 7 or 8 Walnut trees in the next week. They will yield close to 1000/bf for 200.00.

Holy cr@p!!

The cedar is very beatifically done.  What finish will you apply?  How do you keep water from destroying them?

I used to put 1/16" deep cut about 1/8" in from all vertical surfaces.

In your case the legs end grain near the casters.  The horizontal top boards bottom side all around.

The 1/16" acts as a drip edge and will breaks the water tension to that is does not travel farther inward.

The stringers bottom horizontal surface.

Just my thoughts and no intention of hijacking this thread.
