Now you tell me.....:(

Just knew I should've stayed out of the shop, today.....

Anyway, I thought I could at least size a couple plywood panels to fit the box....edges were a bit crooked, so I got out a junior jack plane, and planed the edges straight..

plywood.JPG.4835a9ceac2d6711870f386ec49cabf6.JPG

Plane until it sheeeshes all the way across....Had to adjust for square, plane a bit  more.....usual stuff.   Even got a dry fit, without too much hassle (still early...)

Hmmm, looking a bit "blocky"....( here is where the trouble begins)    decided to round the edges of the "top" a bit

roundover.JPG.29d8a985a089d6d2a1af9daed1fca4c2.JPG

In the Dungeon Shop, a roundover is done via a plane.   Trouble began when I used too short of a plane.    It does work, but, IF you get going too fast and pull back a hair too far....

That corner is ( was) quite sharp.    It had a "meeting"  with my left index finger.....this time I got some DNA on the wood.   Switched back to the Junior jack, and no matter "meetings" were held.   gave this another dry fit...and me a bandaid...

To see how the roundovers meet up.   Got to thinking ( uh-oh:rolleyes:) about how to clamp a glue up......didn't have an extra pair of hands, and was running out of mine:angry:so..

58d067d1530ce_dryfitclamps.JPG.9cc5d565c20287dc2094c812048a4630.JPG

Cleared the bench off, grabbed a few clamps.   The idea was to set these as close as I could, so only a turn or three would clamp things up..  Decided to just slop some glue around, and try my Irish Luck...

square.JPG.b71124b6fce6517abc4530a8524fd5cc.JPG

One more check, for square, tear it down, apply plenty of glue, and start the clamping, Jed...

58d068b6559a3_clampstartup.JPG.e1d0faa7d36e340be93a5afb35267efd.JPG

had to add a couple extra clamps.....

58d068e5b7054_clampedup.JPG.cf823d7acb604684f5326e73b16e5fda.JPG

Added a clamp to pull the diagonal back a bit, into square..

I think that will do, for one day.    Have Corned Beef & Cabbage in the crockpot,   Will let this mess sit overnight.

tuesday, I might get it out of the clamps ( without anymore cuts?) and clean it up.    Have to change the cutter on the Stanley 45 ( uh-oh..)  to make a pair of "beads" all the way around the box.    Then I can saw between the beads to split off the top.   Might be "FUN"  Stay tuned...I do have a new box of bandaids handy....;)

With the trouble I have making dovetails, I sure don't want to make them invisible., Then again, maybe I should.   :D

If he doesn't become more careful, it may be "finger-less" box...

Maybe I'm just giving this box the Fickle Finger of Fate?

Lets see....lost the bolt that holds one of the spurs/knicker in the Stanley #45.....Will cost about $11 to replace..Grrr, but...while down on the floor, looking for the runaway part, I found the wedding ring I had lost a few weeks ago...Got the 45 changed over ( doesn't need the spurs, yet)

58d14b0e17cea_beadcutter.JPG.6487a945e6cf0f8218210942d7f443e5.JPG

Would have to look up the cutter's number, seems to be a tad wider than 1/4" bead.   I was going to actually USE this plane this morning..but...

When I removed the forest of clamps, found one corner that did not get enough glue.    Re-apply glue and clamps to that corner, and closed the joint up

re-glued.JPG.e8965d3db46f3db906555e3ad9f08d8f.JPG

The corner closest to the camera.   Dribbled glue down into the open joint, and then cranked things down as hard as I could, wasn't in the mood to take things easy.....the other end just needed a bit of plane work..

At least something went right.   Will let the re-glued end sit awhile today....will I figure out how to clamp the box steady enough to run this fancy plane around

maybe this evening?

Well, didn't feel like waiting all day on this thing.  Got the box out of the clamps, leveled the edges.    Did a slight round over on the bottom's outside edges.  Rounded the corners a bit.

Clamped the box into the end vise, we have work to do..

58d197bab0894_singlebead.JPG.0378503a202d3533dd8609ba7841a855.JPG

Wanted to cut this all the way around.    Then reset a fancy plane...

58d197f624883_beadcutter.JPG.7b70c0887e4da2afb8439c972cfeba69.JPG

And cut a second bead right beside the other one.    Was a bit hard to do on the one short end, took a bit extra cussing, but...

With these sore fingers, I didn't really feel like doing the saw work by hand.   So...bandsaw was used.    I took a little extra time, to make sure the blade was square to the table, then guide the box through a bit slower than I usually go....still fuzzed up some...

58d199120ce4b_sawnlid.JPG.c33a01eba85eebdf4a16c4ab45a41a95.JPG

Nice thin blade, right between the beads.   Planed the saw marks off..

Used the lid to make sure things were even.    Add some brass hinges....

58d199cd25b54_hingework....JPG.3af42a2d87235682bfad7f25e2fb7245.JPG

Always have trouble doing hinges like this,  finally got them in to where the lid would close..

58d19a1e0313c_hingesinstalled.JPG.d8a9fd38bebf90f933d2a17a02e03185.JPG

I came back and brushed out that  finish stuff.  Closed the lid, it is PIP Time!

Front view. Back is the same, except for the hinges sticking out...

Afraid this plywood panel is a bit on the "plain" side.

measurement.JPG.2e0fc06f30498765e4bb6aaaa4347c9a.JPG

Box is 12" long, by 6" wide, by 3-1/2" tall.   I guess I could look around for a latch of some sort.

Was those joints hidden away...?

58d19ba860555_cornerjoints.JPG.6edc662b2b4cc0bc3db9e5040b71e272.JPG

Maybe not...look right at these corners.   There be hints sitting there..

Will let this smelly Witch's Brew sit a while.....I'll rub it out when it quits stinking up the shop...box might be done?

Good looking box, Steve. Really like the bead work. Were you sweating that saw cut?

That box ain't coming apart. Can't really tell why, though.:D

That turned out fantastic! Love the "bead work".

+1...

I'll swear I could smell the BLO brew when I looked at the finish pictures; strong power of suggestion...I even looked around to see what might be cooking, boiling or burning...
