March 16, 20179 yr Almost a foot of snow, 25° and the wind gusting to 35 mph- spring in Pennsylvania! Last week I mentioned that Jim, from Easy Wood Tools, had joined The Patriot Woodworker. Since then he has posted a picture of one of his turnings- Beautiful bowl. You gotta love that Easy Wood Chuck! Here's a link to his post- http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/topic/19305-glad-to-be-a-patriot-woodworker/ Dan finished up a BUNCH of beautiful inside-out ornaments Check here- http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/topic/19310-60-ornaments/ for more images. Member Ron has been practicing with his chatter tool. He made some really cool spinning tops that he decorated with his new chatter tool- Here's where you can read more- http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/topic/19350-chatter-tool-top/ Keith has been really busy scoping out sites for free woodworking plans. As I was looking through his lists, I found a couple of places that listed turning projects- https://www.canadianwoodworking.com/category-sub-type/turningcarvingintarsia http://www.woodworkersworkshop.com/resources/index.php?cat=604&topic=wood lathe Check out the Patriot's Links Page for more of his great findings of free woodworking plans. Our discussion of Steady Rests reminded me of a device I had seen some time ago. This steady rest uses a different approach to holding the work piece. Looks like it would not be too difficult to make if you have access to some metal working machines. Heck this might even be doable from wood- I believe this maybe way back in the "Wednesday's" archives. It is another great shop made tool from the mind of Mr. David Reed Smith. The entire tutorial for making one is at- http://www.davidreedsmith.com/Articles/FoamConeSander/FoamConeSander.htm Safe Turning

March 16, 20179 yr Good post! I remember seeing a steady like that in a video I watched. The guy was using it to clean up the bottom of a piece. Can't remember the particulars but a live center wouldn't work for him. At the time I thought it was a great idea. Since then, I'd forgotten about it. Thanks for posting it. Steve
