Community Notices Our Links Directory was down, but is now back up, we apologize for the inconvenience. There was a conflict in the way the navigation menus were organized, causing the Links Directory page to open very slowly if at all. Unfortunately we had to change the menu navigation back to the default software layout. Please view your navigation menus and become familiar with their layout, again we apologize for the hassle. Our Member Map will return soon, revamped, and accurate. Our old member map had some of our members living in China, even though they actually live in Montana. March 13, 20179 yr This will be a week of "ifs". If my quote approval for the school shelving gets approved and if the plywood is delivered this week, I'll be building shelves. If they don't, I'll be finishing my son's table and cleaning the shop.
March 13, 20179 yr Shuttled kids on Saturday...took a nap...replaced the heating element in the clothes dryer....yesterday spent the afternoon with SIL/BIL up from Cincinnati for the weekend. Snow on the ground this AM & more to come Forecast for the week is not promising either... Youngest grand-daughter has Middle school swim conference championships tomorrow night; I'll attend so her parents can attend oldest grand-daughter's induction into NHS...a lot of evening shuttling those two since track and tennis start for them this week as well. Need to begin work on tax filing...at least buy and install the software...Whatever you do this week, do it safely!

March 13, 20179 yr Saturday was spent collecting hardware and other prerequisites for an upcoming build. Sunday was lumber moving day. Moved about 300 + bf of mixed species from outside storage to the shed where it's more accessible. With what was already in there, the shed is almost at capacity. Lugging those 10' rough sawn pieces was a chore for this old man. Disturbed a 5' long Gopher snake, too. He/she found another home under the shop. They're great mousers. Unlike cats, they're all business and don't play with their food. Today, Phyl and I will be looking at riding mowers. Maybe Tuesday, I can make sawdust.
March 13, 20179 yr Popular Post This shop has no teeth only the band saw and TS and CS are operational. Why, the new home with a walkout basement is too full of stuff moved from the previous larger house. There is a side room someone dug out that is about 18'x13' but they (should go to jail contractor) undermined the adjacent footers of the front porch and garage wall and exposed about 3' of dirt. The put in a wooden floor over mud and put insulation on the back side of the walls to hold back the 3' of dirt. The water leaked the floor rotted the walls holding up the footings the drywall very moldy. I tore everything out re-leveled the floor for a 4" pour and the concrete guys are due in about 2 weeks to erect new walls and pour the floor. The wall dropped about 1/4" and jammed the garage door closed. I jacked up the joists and got the door free. I figure the dining room is slanted and across 10' is out of flat by 1 1/2". Not bad enough to fix. Once the concrete is poured and dry enough to store stuff the remaining house stuff in my shop will go in that room. Then I can continue working on getting the shop in shape. The past weekend I rerouted electrical in preparation for the new walls. I also sealed most of the penetrations from the basement into the first floor with fire stop caulking. Thus hopefully eliminating some of the drafts and in the event of a fire keeping it contained in the room it starts in.
March 13, 20179 yr More of the same for me. I have found that going out to get the mail (across and down the street) wears me out a little. I will need to spend a little more time on those trips so I can start getting my strength built back up. On the plus side, I have lost about 10 lbs since my surgery, hopefully that was not all muscle
March 13, 20179 yr This a a rare week where my wife has no medical appointments, so I though I would finish up my part of the shop before calling for drywall estimates. Mother nature has intervened, it was too cold over the weekend to do much, and today that snowstrom that is going over Grandpa Dave is supposed to hit us (before it rockets off to become a Nor'easter). So I may not get all that much done this week. Edited March 13, 20179 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr
March 13, 20179 yr Popular Post Good Monday morning! It sucks im injured but its great cause Monday just meens no kids during the day for me hahahaha! Have a friend from mens group at church that bends over backwards to help lend an ear etc. Its not much and first time i tried any kind of inlay but made a small key chain for him. Gonna practice and redine these. Think im also going to add a 550 cord woven section to it so can be used in emergency as well. Shes not perfect but hope he likes it. FYI a soldering iron doesnt works so well for even simple wood burning. Especially when the neck decides it wants so start to wobble. So off to make a few more for practice!
March 13, 20179 yr Jay, that's a wonderful gift. I'm sure he'll treasure it becaus it came from your hand.
March 13, 20179 yr Author Jay, better than store bought, hand made, rustic, a ton of character, he'll treasure it for life. Now, that was the touchy feely spiritual stuff I just said, lets talk about design and execution. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! That's woodworking! On the materialistic side of things, put that in a gift shop and it sells! Nice job Justin. Keep going with your heart, it's taking you in the right direction with your woodworking.

Heard on the Dayton news last night you were supposed to get about 3" over the next 24 hrs. 1-2 in Wilimington (10 miles east of me) Listening to Cincinnati (25 miles SW) this morning, trace amounts there. Unusual for them, not to induce panic at the threat of any snow at all. Stay warm.
March 13, 20179 yr Yeah, they were saying that last night and early this morning, but by noon today they were backing off a little...who knows. It is supposed to be a very wet snow; should be fun if I have to clear the drive. Edited March 13, 20179 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr
March 13, 20179 yr Popular Post My brother took his turn at having at having a cold so I didn't get to spend time BSing with him this weekend. Spent the extra time in the shop and tried my hand at inlay in the inside-out ornaments. It worked out well as seen here.
March 13, 20179 yr Sitting here, wearing a heart monitor.......not much else going on...no sign of any snow here... The Boss bought a metal plant stand, guess who had to assemble it......after all the trouble doing that, I'll stay out of the shop today. I did pick up some hinges and a latch for that Pine Box Project, and a file to do saw teeth with.
