My neighbor was cutting  up a muscle tree which had fallen in the woods some time back and i noticed that it had a fair size chunk at the base and appeared to be spalted.   I thought maybe someone would be interested in trying to turn this (I have no lathe)... so here are the pictures...if you're interested i can probably meet you somewhere in NE ohio to deliver it...   too heavy to mail.

That's a very nice offer, just to far away to take advantage.

No idea...i wasn't back there when it happened and it was laying on a thick pile of leaves...   we've been having a lot of the dead ash trees break off and fall and i can assure you...they make plenty of noise and the ground shakes..

My hearing is so bad it wouldn't make a difference either way.

Related to that, if a man says something in a forest and there is no woman there to hear it, is he still wrong?

Pete, why not saw it into small boards and make a box out of it.  I don't usually turn large items but I will take the log and turn a couple bowls with it if you want to give it up since there were no other takers.

Had a chance to deliver the chunk of wood to Dan today.   He was kind enough to give me a wood vise and one of his turned pens and we had a chance to talk for a bit over some coffee - sorry, no donuts.  Hope it turns into something nice for him!

Peter is a good guy.  We talked for three hours and never a dull moment.  We both thought of a camera at the same time which was too late.  It was great putting a face to a name and I will get to the Iron Wood log soon and see what I can come up with.
