We took a drive two hours east yesterday to take a look around the area where my wife's ancestors first settled. Check for graveyards, etc. While there, I looked up someone who has been advertising old tools for sale on Kijiji for the past six months. Whenever we were in that area, no-one was home, but this time I lucked out. Five large sheds full of all kinds of tools, old and new, as well as furniture and lord knows what else. The weather was windy and darn cold, the sheds unheated, so we only stayed for a half hour, but I didn't go home empty-handed! Found a 2" lever cap to replace a broken one, and a Record 075 Bullnose Rabbet plane.

While snooping around in the sheds, I noticed something that jogged my memory, and when we got back home I tried to find the article, which has been buried at the back of a workbench for several years. Anyone need a light-weight circular saw?DSC_0009.JPG

I don't remember where this came from, and there are no identifying marks on it, but I'm guessing it dates to the mid-50's or so. It has a 4" blade. The drill was my dad's, 55 years old, and still works.

Nice Score!!

I remember, as a kid, there seemed to be a lot of drill attachments available.

Dad had a jigsaw that was powered by a drill. He wound up mounting it in a table (upside-down) since it was quite a chore to hold on to the two items while sawing.

Great find John on your lever cap but totally awesome on the Record bull-nose plane...those are a rarity in the wild anymore it seems.

I remember ads back in the 50's & 60's in the back of some magazines for circular saw attachments powered by a drill...also the the jig saw attachment...cool you have one

I passed one up (circular saw attachment) a while back that had the original box..price was reasonable, I'm just running out of space for some "collectibles" :D

Thanks for sharing...especially that plane...way cool.

That would explain the price! She had three there, mine, a Stanley almost identical to mine, and a slightly smaller one with no identifying marks that I could see in the rather dim light. $50 each.

From what I've seen John, the Stanley's are bringing ~$300+ on eBay...have not seen (or searched) for a Record, but am guessing in that same range...Curious now so gonna do a search...any numbers on it by chance?

The only identifying marks on it are on the blade. There is also a casting number on the lower half, if I remember correctly. Google "Record 075" and you'll get lots of pictures of bullnose planes. That's how I identified mine. BTW,  the Stanly had a very narrow head on the screw that tightens the cap, where mine is wider and easier to grip. Since it will be a 'user', that's why I chose it.

Thanks Dave. That was the first site I clicked on. Lots of info! Notice that the names on these planes were decals, not cast-in, which explains the lack of identifying marks.

John

That is a nice bullnose.

I have a couple I have found.

one on on the left is a Stanley and the one on the right is a Jorsan made in Germany.

The Stanley is just a bit larger.

@John Moody & @HARO50

OK you two, knock it off...I have none of the "vintage" (bullnose) planes...

starting to get "plane" envy complex here...:D
