So jump in, post your pics, and tell us all the big fish stories you came up with over the weekend! Blogs We get a ton of outside views for our blogging area, but our inside participation is lacking, so for those of you who are blogging, please keep it up, you are being read, and you are getting a ton of love from our fence sitting lurkers and passerby's. We are going to figure out a way to get those blogs out front and center so our woodworkers here will be able to see the current happenings quicker and easier which should equate to more participation. It was his 90th birthday. We all had the Seafood Marinara. Shrimp, scallops, clams, and calimari. It was fantastic and the birthday boy enjoyed it. The restaurant is about 45 mi. from his house, so by the time we got home it was a little late to get anything done in the shop. I barely had time to squeeze in a nap. Hope to be a bit more productive today. Another coat of finish on a jewelry chest and...maybe... some work on the mesquite rifle cases. When you're retired, there are no Mondays so, I really appreciate John's weekly reminders.

January 30, 20179 yr My Saturday was spent helping a niece & her husband move, disassembling & re-assembly of furniture. Yesterday was cool & windy, I spent most of the day inside planning for the upcoming upstairs remodel. Today I plan to check out the various landscape edging options at Borg. Tomorrow is a trip to Atlanta to help our daughter move, again I expect my part to be primarily disassembling & re-assembly of a couple furniture pieces. I will also be delivering her wardrobe that I just made for her. The balance of the week is supposed to be warm & sunny. I expect to be back outside doing yardwork. Right now, except for the planned remodel; and yardwork - I do not even see a woodworking project on the horizon. That of course could change by the end of the week... Cal
January 30, 20179 yr My weekend plans changed and I spent Saturday taking care of my mother in assisted living. No gun show. Sunday was cold and windy so we did a little work in the house after church and rested. At this point I'm not making many plans, just taking what the week gives me as I'm trying to build my strength and energy back up.
January 30, 20179 yr Popular Post Spent Saturday at a pool tournament and went to dinner at a Chili's after we were eliminated. Not much got done Sunday either. I have to agree with Stick, retirement is the best.

January 30, 20179 yr Spent the weekend with my Dad at his place on the coast. Today is the pre-op/consultation with the ankle surgery so I know exactly what I will have to put up with/expect after surgery. Hopefully, I can get some time in the shop this week as I will not be out there much during the next couple of months
January 30, 20179 yr Hope it all goes well. I have a friend that had ankle replacement and did great. He is already back playing golf.
January 30, 20179 yr Popular Post Our town holds an "Ice Fest" late in January. A friend of ours sponsors the Chili Contest as one of the attractions so we "volunteer" to help out. Each year I grow hot peppers for his chili. This year the chili sauce was a mixture of Bhut Jolokias, Carolina Reapers, Red Morugas and Butch T Trinidad Scorpion peppers plus a few other secret ingredients. He prides himself on having the hottest chili at the event and judging from the reaction of the patrons, he is correct. The "servers" came prepared to protect themselves from the toxic fumes and occasional spills- I did get a chance to do some cleaning in the shop.
January 30, 20179 yr popularity contest? i'll never win one of those. my last boss told me i needed more "tact", so i asked for one example where i didn't exercise sufficient "tact". he couldn't think of one. fine, i'll sign your stupid evaluation form, let's move on shall we? headed down to the shop shortly to work on a little box (cherry with maple splines), and then maybe start taking out the old master bath vanity. that sounds like work.
January 30, 20179 yr Popular Post After many years my wife of 60 years and I figured out that the stairs were just to much---so we are in the process of moving the washer and dryer up to the main floor----also converting the tub to 60" shower. Requires much work and much expense---- but will make life easier. The worst part for me is having to write checks for work being done by contractors that for all these years I have done by myself------time changes all things.
January 30, 20179 yr Although I am retired...Monday always seems to let me know it is still around.....guess that is why I try to stay out of the shop on Mondays... Need a lot of Power Naps today......A lot was done over the weekend... Two down, three to go...

January 30, 20179 yr Spent part of Saturday cleaning up the new lathe and chuck. The chuck is a Nova made for Delta G3D. Then Turned a bowl (1st turning) on it. Worked very well . I did add a couple 25 pound weights I had for mass. Went to wood supplier and a tool store with a friend this morning . This after noon get into the shop spray a little lacquer and maybe turn some wood.
January 30, 20179 yr Spent the weekend painting spare bedroom. Stained and started to varnish the bed that I made.
