It's really sad isn't it. Brand ID used to relate to a level of quality, performance and service...with few exceptions today (Bosch probably one), regardless the label, QPS is pretty much the same...hum ho or less. My first router, a Craftsman Professional, 1HP, no other bells or whistles still works flawlessly...replaced the switch once...it's nearly 45 y/o.. Soapbox space now open...Apply here ---->

January 29, 20179 yr Author Thank you everyone with some great info. I'm in the planning stages right now. So when I do find the right plans to build a router table for my needs I can also get the right size router for what I want to do. Plans are as of right now is to start remodeling the kitchen sometime next winter. The router table hopefully will get done this summer.

I'm pretty sure there is a second video later than this that offers some improvements & enhancements but I couldn't find it at the moment. I'm believe the plans are still available for both through PBS. This one is on my "bucket list" The bestest router table I've ever ever seen is here...Dadio's Router Table Upgrade
January 29, 20179 yr My router table was taken from Norm's original plans, but I actually included some of the changes that Norm has incorporated in his updated version, including dust collection at the fence and below in the router chamber. I also hinged the access door. Norm's new fence looks great. I made my cabinet using 3/4" oak plywood with oak facia. Draws are birch ply . Also mounted mine on casters for portability. This was my first ever cabinet building attempt, so it's not that hard to do. Edited January 29, 20179 yr by It Was Al B

I've just been checking other router tables out to build . As far as Dadio's router table. I only wish I had that talent working with metal to build a table like that. That is a really nice table !! I like Stick's table also. So many to choose from. I just know it will be out of wood. Thank you!!
January 30, 20179 yr I also built the Norm model, and mine is pretty close to his updated version. That was in 1999 ( I think) and it is still in service although it is starting to show it's age. Edited January 30, 20179 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr

So when I do find the right plans to build a router table for my needs I can also get the right size router for what I want to do. A few years ago I decided that I wanted to build a router table. Space in my shop is fairly limited so I decided that a floor model wasn't the best option for me. Then I thought some about adding one to my table extension table, but decided that I did not want it to interfere with any table saw setup that I may have. I decided to build a portable router table much like the Kreg portable, but with a router plate and fence of my choosing. Now I can set it ontop of the table saw extension when needed, and when I use the table saw I can just simply remove it and set it off to the side without disturbing the settings of the router table. I've had it for several years and I'm very happy with it. It's very stable, and fairly heavy so it dampens any possible vibration. I have a PC 892 router in it.
January 31, 20179 yr Thanks Gene. Everyone has their own situation, what I did is what works for me. For someone else it may not be the best solution, but I thought that it was something that others might want think about before they mount a router setup to their table saw.
