January 18, 20179 yr Popular Post How about a broken sledge hammer handle turned into chisel handles. Also a pretty good example of how not to use a lathe but I am learning.https://youtu.be/5dYnNZQn8s8
January 18, 20179 yr Good one, those broken handles have good wood in them begging for a use. Good looking chisel handles too Herb
January 19, 20179 yr ugh, nice looking handles...well done. unfortunately reminds me of a chisel i found at a habitat that had no handle and the idjits had hammered on the top of the socket and mushroomed the metal (thankfully not splitting it). future project is to clean out that socket and find a handle (no lathe here..)...
January 19, 20179 yr Great handles. I found a 1/2 inch mortising chisel at an antique store for $3 and made the handle. It is interesting to turn these.
January 22, 20179 yr Cool beans...great idea too...I always keep old broom handles but never thought about other tools. Thanks for the tip and application(s)

Use the drill press as a lathe.

Thanks Dan. You can sharpen up an old screw driver of even a file to make do as a tool. I have some I sharpened up some for special service too. Edited January 22, 20179 yr by HandyDan
