Friday, Jan 13, 2017, What's on your Patriot Woodworker agenda?

Featured Replies

I went back to the Dr this week and got the staples removed from my knee. He told me I could start going back to the shop for short trips and not to over do it. So, I'm hoping to get out there for a bit this weekend and finish a Lego table I almost had done before the surgery.

So for now that is what I'm looking forward to this weekend weather is to be in the 70's so should be nice.

How about the rest of you, what's on your agenda this weekend. Please share your plans with the rest of us here at TPW.

Looking forward to trying out this titanium knee!!!

Started the table trim for the COmmunion table. Needs some sanding at the transitions. Didn't have one router bit to make the complete detail.

May get the table legs cut and morticed.

I sprayed the final coat of finish on a pair of walnut flag cases today and should have them assembled tomorrow.  If I get time, I'll start on a rolling cart to store 40 ukeleles on for my daughter. She's an elementary school music and art teacher and she won the ukuleles in a national contest.  Dear old dad gets pressed into service.   Luckily, the school has a budget so it isn't a 100% freebie.

Twas a shopping day, today.   Went to a Menards store.   Had a cart with a bunch of 1x2s and some other scraps......Cashier asks IF the  1x2s were all the same.......Mom did not raise a dummy, so I said.."Of course"   and paid for the items what was rung up.     Turns out the 6 of the nine were at $3.99 each, NOT $.92  each......and now you know why I am called Bandit.

Second stop was at Wall E World.    Instead of just a nap in the van while the Boss was shopping, I went in, hopped on a motorized cart and cruised the aisleways.....for some reason, packs of sandpaper ( on clearence!) hopped into the basket.....next a bottle of glue, then an outlet, and a power strip.......then a few packs of screws.....decided to hightail up front, and get checked out, before anything else jumps into the cart......

Hmmm, one couple at the checkout lane?    Parked behind them, safely away from any shelves......and waited...and waited.....A Wallmart CSM had to come to the line, re-enter everything they had checked out.....finally, after about a 10 minute nap, I could motor ahead, and pay for the stuff in the basket....then motor on out to the van......and I STILL beat the Boss back to the van!

Now resting up, as I am not used to that much shopping in one day.   later, I might head to the shop, and hide out there.

why the different prices on 1x2?

The Wife will be here this weekend, but I am still hoping for a little shop time while she is watching her Seaducks (errr, I mean Seahawks) on Saturday afternoon. She gets Monday off, but I do not. Not sure what else, yet

Pace yourself Mr. Moody...'tis been a bit since you were last cutting, drilling and sanding...Don't let your eagerness to have fun spoil the gains you've made...:P

We're to have similar weather except 400-450 colder with wind, sleet, snow and freezing rain beginning tonight through Sunday afternoon...so should be < nice2...;)

Still trying to recover from replacing the starter in my truck Wednesday afternoon and night...also got the oil/ filter changed and serviced...starter was one nasty J.O.B.

Our H.S. swim conference championships are tomorrow afternoon depending on weather. Oldest grand-daughter qualified for finals last night in her (2) individual events; two relay teams she's on qualified for finals by season seed times...they are real contenders for a conference title for the first time in years...

Sunday, again weather permitting, will visit mom in Nursing Home/Rehab Center...

Last Sunday Andrew brought his harp over and wanted me to fix all the mistakes he made butchering it up to make it sound better. It does sound louder, but he hacked it all up and put a steel angle iron spine in it to attach the strings to , and bolts here and ther, plus broke the wooden top and had it all taped together with black tape. Plus he wants to thin it down on the sound box and front arm.

All week I have been working on it and hope to get it done this weekend so I can get back to some projects I have started.

The expensive ones were supposed to be "Premium" grade, with square edges.......they warp just as much as the strapping 1x2s do.   i had found the "good ones" first, then found the cheap ones.   I placed the cheap ones on top of the others, as that was the only room on the cart.   If she doesn't take the time to check the load herself....meh.   Yes, they were all 1x2 x8' boards....

The stores here used to count all the same items and scan the top one then X the number in the cart. But now they scan every one in the cart.

That is right - at the big box stores around here, I try to put the bar codes so it is easy for them to scan. If want to get lazy and scan 1 and enter the number, well, that is their problem.

I have no real plans on the table. The shop is cold and that makes me really cold to think about it.

Might go out tomorrow and piddle around for alittle bit?

Not suppose to get the freezing that they were calling for. So that makes it alittle better.

I get to have my left knee replacement done on April 3. Right knee sometime after.

I thought this was to be my Golden years?

Take care John. Don't over do it.

Enjoy your shop time!!!

Did not get any shop done today. A fellow turner came over this morning and we swapped wood and candle sealing wax and a few tales. This afternoon I went to another turners shop and bought his Elbo Hollowing tool. He showed me some acrylic duck call blanks he is making and we went and did a little zeroing in on the JR Carbine since had to change sight riser. Hope to get in some turning tomorrow

Gerald, If that's the one Tim Yoder sells I have it also. It's a really nice medium duty tool. I think you'll like it, sets up quickly and works as advertised.

Maybe you guys could get together and do a tutorial on this.  Really, I hope everyone's recovery is fast & painless.

Spent some time tuning my scroll saw, LOML wants some picture frames made. Figure I'll make one the size of her cell phone because that's where all the photos are. <_<

Larry I had the right one replaced about two years ago. This one has been much better since I knew what to expect and I was better prepared. I started doing leg exercises a couple of months ahead to build up those muscles. It has made therapy much much better than before and I am getting around much better. I am well ahead of where I was on my first one.

Best of luck and if I can help let me know and we can talk by phone.
