Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers! January 9, 2016

Good Morning Patriot Woodworker's!

I'll have to keep this one short and sweet, got a sore hand and I am typing one handed here.

So, first off, what have you all got going on this week in your shops? What did you do in your shops over the weekend?

Please spill the beans and give us a snapshot in the life of your workshops, and even in your own non-woodwork related lives, we like to know how we are all doing these days.

This last weekend nothing really got done in our own shop as we were out on the road traveling a little bit locally, in our mountains and checking out the snow and wrapping up the winter break.

We hope to hear from you about your life happenings, and all your doing. Thank you for being here and thank you for your contributions to our community!

nice but they need a sacrificial top..

nothing on the schedule...

Ambled around the shop this weekend and organized some small items that didn't have a home.  I guess little things mean a lot.

Spent a bit of time starting two walnut flag cases for stock but the week is going to get busy.  My daughter is a music teacher and somehow she won 40 ukeles for her school.  I've been "commissioned" to build a rolling rack to put them in so that's on my end of the week project list.

Saucer sledding in the mountains do your hand in did it?:D

Really cool "old school" project print and a timeless practical design; I really like Fig. 3 showing how to set the adjustable bevel square using a framing square to cut brace angles...cool; wish this type of stuff was still taught today.

No shop time due to extreme bitter cold; SS & church yesterday AM; afterwards wife & I went out for lunch, picked up my truck starter,  then spent the afternoon with mom at the nursing facility; closest I came to shop time was convincing nursing & maintenance her in room AC/Heat unit had a failed thermostat; before we left she had new, "state of the art" digital unit installed and working perfectly.

If weather breaks like forecasted for a day or two, replace starter on truck, change oil/filter & service...

Nasty cold, coughing and sneezing. Went though a box of Kleenex. So, no shop time yesterday. Finally broke down and took some OTC stuff. Seems to be doing the trick.

Applying a finish this AM. While it's drying, I'll pull some mesquite and maple for a rifle case. Heck, I might even get some of it cut. No need to rush things.

Not much shop time for me, just a little to cold. Only have a little bit to finish on the scroll saw project but I just couldn't keep the hands warm. Heat wave is starting today high of 23. Helping the LOML pack up the Christmas decorations as the 12th day of Christmas has passed. I've been buying my wife snowbabies as a gift for over 35 years. They look great on display but its a lot of work putting them away. Slow process.

Didn't get out of the house due to extreme cold weather.

Had therapy this morning and got 101 degrees of bend. Now I'm in the chair with ice on it and resting. I did walk past the shop on my way back to the house, as close as I'll get.

Sounds like me and the Santa's! They seem to follow us home when ever we see them. Finally just getting the "unique" , different, looking ones.

A little bit of shop time today, maybe . It's a heat wave today! Up to 40* today which is 40* higher than it's been in weeks!!!

Spent Saturday making 24 dining tables with 3 other guys for the furniture bank.

Sunday and today I'm working on 3 chairs for grand-kids that have wiggly butts.  Reverse-engineering a Stokke chair like their cousins have.   Got the bridle joints on the base glued up, working on the bent laminations for the backs and cutting out seats.

Still catching up from my move.

Thickness Planar had to remove rust and paint extensions.

Got the belts back on barely.

Jointer is a DJ20 Top half removed from bottom.

Belt put back on.  Motor properly positioned and balanced.  All bolts redone and torqued.

Electrical problem the the start switch is not operational.

During the move had all the blades removed and sent out for sharpening.

Ugh, what a pain routing all 26 grooves per chair at a 25 degree angle to the edges.  For the first time in my life, I wish I had a CNC.   I could have set it up and go -- 8 grooves 1.5" apart, skip one, and 5 more at 1.5" apart.   While you're there, route out the mortises for the back supports.    Beep when you're done, I'm going for some coffee.

No shop time for a few days. LOML had her right knee cleaned up (three tears) on Tuesday, still groggy from the anesthetics. Pain killers are making her queasy, too. So this week I'm playing nurse.

Thanks, guys. She stopped the painkillers after only one day, and feels much better! She never did believe in taking pills.
