January 12, 20206 yr I have found that holding the driven end in a chuck goes a long way towards reducing chatter and whip on spindle turnings. I believe the reason is a whole lot less pressure is needed with the tail stock. I really noticed this when making the Harry Potter Wands. The chuck captures the driven end.
January 13, 20206 yr John, I hope you had your face shield on and in place. Secondly, you now have scrapes to make finials. Go for it.
