Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers! January 2, 2016

Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworker's!

And a Happy New Year to ya all!

We'll get right down to the big question of the day, our weekly query to you, "What did you get accomplished, or not accomplished over the past weekend", and "what do you have planned for the week ahead in your shops?" As a matter of fact, feel free to disclose non-wood related projects or life events as well, we just want to hear from you.

Newest members

When you get a moment, please surf on over to the pages of our newest member and give em a big welcome.

To see the latest members you can scroll down to the bottom of our home page at the lower right you'll see our new folks listed. Click on their avatar or name and you'll be taken to their page, and PM them a message of welcome!

As many of us were welcomed here when we came aboard, we all know how nice it felt, lets turn the favor to our new joins!

Tips

  • Did you know you, that while you are listing the topics in each forum, you can hover your cursor over a topic title, and a popup preview of the topic will appear? Just keep your cursor over the topic title for a few seconds, some computers may take longer.
  • Hover your cursor over the "Activity" tab at top, and click on "All Activity" and you can see community snapshot of the latest content, one of my favorite areas on that page is the most recent forum images.
  • Did you know that our "Downloads" are completely free? And we'd love to encourage our own folks here to upload their own plans, patterns and guides and charts for others to use, the Downloads section is a free community effort for all to participate in. So download some great open-source files and upload your own files to share!

The "What's It Project"

A new "What's it Project" will be posted later today, we are also changing the rules a tad so that we can start handing out memberships to the MWTCA, even if a "What's it" was not solved. Check back in later!

Thank you

On behalf of our staff we'd like to thank you all for being here, and sharing, learning, and contributing to our growing community, and growing database of knowledgeable content for future woodworker's to use. Thank you!

Eye candy image of the week

'Rack Saw-bench with Self-acting Top' Circular saw ripping sawbench. The saw in this case remains fixed, but the sliding table moves past it on rollers, carrying the log with it. Note the lack of splitter, not unusual for this period.

Started a project well over a year ago. Broke it out yesterday and found that some of the inlays have glue squeeze out. Now, how did I miss that?:(  I'll be correcting that today. I love my Stew-Mac scrapers.

At least, the doors still fit.

Still waiting for the upholsterers to get Morris #2 done. That'll mean a trip to warmer weather (Tucson).

Other than that, it's just another quiet week on the mesa.

headed back to bed....

Hoping you get well soon!

Lew, sorry. They are nasty. Hopefully you get relief soonest.

Just getting over it myself. It's kept me out of the shop the past two weeks.

How you get better soon

I got the crud too.  Not too bad so I might find something to do on the metal lathe.  Less dust.

Thanks for the well wishes. I just may have to break down a go to the doctor on this one. Hope he doesn't have a cardiac episode by seeing me twice in 4 years!

Worked on these boxes from church pew parts.IMG_0956.JPGIMG_0957.JPG

The ply face on the inside was so brittle that I had to sand it off,but got good cuts on the outside. Pews have very little solid wood nowadays so had to make some exceptions so I could hide the veneered particleboard. Used a chamfering bit to make the 45's and it worked very well with no tear out. I will be spraying lacquer today. These are prototypes  so the church can sell them for fundraiser.
