Potpourri Bowls

Featured Replies

Decided to make some potpourri bowls for my brothers and sisters for Christmas this year.  I had some 1 3/4" Poplar 6" wide and glued two pieces together to make 6"X3.5" bowls.

I have been seeing air freshener beads in the stores and decided to use them for the fragrance.

I found some aluminum cups to hold the beads since there is moisture involved and hollowed out the bowls to fit them and put a recess for the covers too.

Now that is a cool idea! I love it!

Where did you get the "covers" ?

Thanks Lew.

I have been watching for them at the thrift stores for a couple years.  I usually get them for fifty cents or a dollar.  They can be had new (Google potpourri covers) at various places, Lee Valley is one.

Dan great idea with the beads. Where did the cups come from?

I like those a lot Dan,

Cal

I think that is a real kool idea and you did a great job turning. The covers set them off nicely.

Very nice! My wife would love those and I'm sure your siblings will too. I never even knew there was such a thing as potpourri covers. Thanks for sharing this. Where does the moisture come from? Do the balls disintegrate or something?

Steve

really like your work Dan...

Those were from the thrift store too.  Check out the knick knack shelves.  They have glass and brass candle cups that could work too.  Any little cup will do.

The balls are moist in the container so I assume they ooze moisture as it evaporates.  This is a first for me using them so not real sure.

Great looking pieces Dan. Good idea for the supplies and covers.

Thanks for all the nice comments.  It is appreciated.

Nice little bowls.  I can't stand artificial odors.  Drives me crazy how marketing insists on putting a scent into everything.

If they could just accurately imitate these two- Honeysuckle and Wood Smoke- I'd be happy

Very nice Dan.
