Friday, Dec 2, 2016 What's on your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Well folks, I dropped the ball and did not cover this Friday topic for our Administrator John Moody! Our admin John Moody is getting ready for a life event, so he may not be around here for a couple weeks or even more! But he is fine and healthy.

As you all know John is our Friday topic fellow, and he always gets a nice friendly topic up here on Fridays to ask you all, what's on your woodworking agenda this weekend?

I am filling in, so I may not do as good a job as John Moody, but here we go.

What are you all up to this weekend! I know it's late, but I had to say it, to cover my duties. So, what do you all have in the oven?

I was in the shop last night for a couple hours building a wood bending steam box for the shaker chairs I am ready to make. It was a fun project, just some pine, some butt joints, and some basic carpentry, I love these projects, they bring me back to the beginnings, I had the radio on, I had a little fire pit going right outside my shop, and I had my Appalachia music in the background.

Here is an album I started for the process of the steam box.

Picture below is a the view out the back of my shop/garage towards our back yard. I was getting a tad chilled working in my shop, so I just set out the ol fire pit and used it for a heating source to walk out too and get warm, then head back in and keep working on the steam box.

Then the word got out to the kids that dad had started a fire. So, my son joined me outside, he brought his lap top out and sat by the fire as did his home work. He is currently working on a huge project, he is building a website for the annual "History Day" project for school. The website he is making is dedicated to the men of the "Irish Brigade" during the Civil War". He loves military history, and he chose to create a project about the fierce Irish Brigade.

So that's been my weekend of woodworking thus far! I'll head back into the shop today and complete that steam box. Thanks all for being here, and don't forget to tell us.

What's on your woodworking agenda this weekend!

This is our busy and fun season for Santa visits!

We have (had) our Christmas Stroll downtown on Friday night. We had over 325 kids of all ages visit with us, in 3hours!!

And bright and early Saturday morning we were at a 3k Santa Run for the school district. They had a good turn out even if it was 25* out there. Again, a lot of kids and pictures. My cheeks are sore this morning from all the smiling.

We'll  busy during the week with more visit and every Friday and Saturday evening we're at a local restaurant.

That will keep us busy until next year!

Awesome Santa! I love your Santa times you have, you are the real deal my friend!

Harry, er I mean Santa, are you still doing Santa letters for the kids around the nation? My kids are a tad too old now, but I was just curious if you and Mrs. Santa still performed that service?

Made a lot of progress on Morris#2. Fitting the cuved arms or rather, fitting the chair sides to the arms is slow and tedious. It's plane, scrape, rasp and plane. Check the fit and do it again. Each arm takes about 8 hours. For me, that's two days.

The arms are now fitted and glued in place. Next is pocket screws and corbels to cover the holes. The last step of construction is fitting the back. By Tuesday, it should be ready for sanding and finish. Hope to have it to the upholsterers by the following Monday.

Where is the chair #2 going Gene? Sorry if I missed that answer in a previous post.

No John. Our Grand kids are too old for that, plus no other friends have asked.

If they did, we would.

Do you remember Harry, you did it for our kids a few years back, it was a wonderful thing that you did, they still talk about it to this day around Christmas time.

Goes to the same place as #1. Son and DILs home.

They've already had several inquiries. But, I ain't doing no more. Not fun any more. Time for something new.

Not much on the workbench- more like all around the house. Mimi has decided to decorate for Christmas:wacko:

Our plans today as well Lew.

Made a large purchase at an OnLine tool auction.  Picked up my purchase Saturday and spent the weekend sorting it out.  Pictures soon.

Just finishing up a BS box gift. Will post photos when I'm done.

I hope to those images soon Al, I love those BS boxes, they are really neat and modern looking.

Morris#2 is done! Well, it’s constructed, anyway. Now, Phyl takes over for the final finishing. Upholsterers get it next week. Might deliver it before Christmas.
Now, there’s a jewelry chest project that’s been on the back burner for a couple years. Then, my brother’s rifle cases. THEN IT’S PLAY TIME. Several shop projects. A new top for the bench and conversion to LED lighting top the list. Of course, plans are subject to change on a whim. Not my whims, though. I’m single minded and goal oriented. Not easily distracted….Oh look, a squirrel…...
