Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers! November 28, 2016

Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworker's!

I am sorry but this Good Morning is going to be short and sweet than our typical informational. But we can't miss a Monday period, because we want to know how your weekends went!

So how about it folks? What did you do over the weekend!!!! What did you build, what didn't you build? It was long Thanksgiving weekend, I bet not much got done as most of us were enjoying friends, family, and just taking it easy.

But if you were in the shop, let's hear it! And what do you have planned for the week ahead?

Thanks for being here folks, we hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend and all is well.

Haven't been in the shop since last Wednesday. Likely, won't get much done today, either.

Phyl is driving her sister Judy to Phoenix today. Her sister’s husband has Alzheimer’s and he took off in their old Bronco last night. Drove 200 miles and got in a minor fender bender near Phoenix. Judy had contacted our county sheriff earlier so the Phoenix cops had the info. This is the third time he's done this. He's never gotten so far, before. The Pima county cops impounded the Bronco and took him to a hospital. Judy will get the Bronco out of hock and drive him back home. Don’t know yet when they’re leaving. It’s a 4-5 hr. drive to Phoenix. They don’t want me to go. Judy can handle him pretty easily. Especially, since he’ll be medicated.

Phyl and I are hoping Judy finally sees the need for some sort of home for him. He can't be trusted and he's liable to harm himself or someone else.

No shop time for last two weeks...at the hospital pretty much continuous from Thanksgiving morning through yesterday evening...worth every moment of it from lowest of lows Thursday AM to yesterday afternoon seeing Mom taking her first real steps in weeks less than 18 hours after a 4+ hour major surgery.

No shop time planned as this will be a busy week finding the right Rehabilitation center...her goal is to be home by Christmas. I'm just thankful we'll have her for Christmas regardless of physical location.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday. Have a great & safe week John and everyone else too.

I didn't get a lot done this week, what with thanksgiving and I was under the weather a little and spent most of the weekend in my recliner napping. I did get out long enough yesterday to engrave a few lids for honey dippers. Still learning to use the laser engraver and had some new designs I wanted to see how they wood look. These are done 100% with inkscape and I'll say again, the more I learn about this program, the more I am impressed with it.

I'm thinking the "honey lady" will like these a lot.

Dave, I can relate to what you're going through as we went through several episodes with both Mom and Dad. It can be heart wrenching. I am glad to hear your Mom is doing better and from personal experience, I would advise you to cherish these times.

I think you're right she will love them. Those look awesome.

I'll finish up some pizza peels this morning, cut some cutting boards and get them in the second glue up, start on 16 cabinet doors and deliver the plant stand.

Then the week gets busy, we have our last show this Friday night so I got to fill in a little inventory.

I'm already tired and I've just had coffee this morning.

Steve, those are amazing.  Nice work.  As for me, this was a putter weekend and I think this week will be the same.  I've spent the last year reading Shelby Foote's 3 volume set on the Civil War and I'm about 40 pages from the end.  Guess what I'll be doing today?

No shop time this past week with elk season and Thanksgiving. We did not get an elk, but it was still an awesome hunt -dad was able to get out there with me (he will be 86 on two weeks) so this was our 37th elk season together and my girl friend was with us too, her first time. Some of the places I went she thought I was a little insane but still had a good time and wants to get a tag for next year.

Will be trying to get some shop time in this week after getting everything put away

The kids & grand kids came in on Wednesday and served up Thanksgiving dinner for 19 family members. Half of that group stayed until Friday evening, spent the rest of the evening with the LOML enjoying a quiet house. Took my nephew to Hartville tools to do a little Xmas shopping on Saturday and he was able to find some FR shirts @ 30% off, $59.00 per shirt was a good savings for him. Spent the drive home beating up the steering wheel listening to the Ohio State & that other team, I was able to get in the house with enough time to celebrate the victory.

Sunday, after reading the thread about spiders in the shop I went out and cleaned the shop. Warm and sunny today, plan on going out and work on the jewelry box I started a month or so ago.

@Gene Howe, sorry to hear about your sister-in-law's husband. Hope she can get him into a physicality. Treatment from Alzheimer's has  really come a long way.

@Grandpadave52, so glad your Mom is doing well. It is amazing how quickly the recovery time is for heart surgery. A friend had an Aortic valve replace and was home the next day- out shopping!

Not much shop time, but on the way home from the restaurant we found a little second-hand, junk market type place we'd never been to. With 15 minutes to closing, I found a nice, restorable Record 05 jack plane. Totally original, and only $15!
