This is one of my better turnings. I had a piece of firewood from an old apple tree and saw some spalting in it. I combined some exotic wood rings in it and it came out beautiful. I am not good enough to hollow out something like this and if I was, the spalted apple would not holdup, it was pithy.

That is one cool looking turning

Ron, that is absolutely beautiful. It looks to my first sight as palm trees hanging over water reflecting the image. Outstanding piece. Spalted apple gives the most interesting effects. Good picture too.

I like it.  Very well done.

Very nice Ron. As it happens I did a  similar piece out of spalted sycamore. Similar in shape as I didn't add the exotics which really add to your piece. For mine I just drilled a hole down through the center and the wife sometimes puts dried flowers in it.

That's gorgeous!

Are the dark rings burned or are they thin pieces of black wood?

Very nice.

Lew, they are burned. I like the look of the contrasting rings and the black burn added a lot also
