Stair question

Why not use the laminate all the way up the steps and for the floor at the top?  Everything would be nice and even.

Good question Dan.  When I purchased the flooring a couple weeks back I nearly did purchase the laminate treads.  But when I asked them about the three open ended treads they said those would not be laminate, but plywood instead.  When I asked about the bottom tread which has a return they said it would have to be custom made, also plywood.  When I asked about the top step, that was also going to be unfinished wood.  So I could see different looking treads and such not matching.

Then I seen the retro pieces at Lowes.  At least using these, they would all stain the same.

BTW - I got a reply from LL regarding the piece I posted above: My question - could I use that piece with laminate flooring?

Answer:

“Potentially yes however most laminates will have matching stair-nose.”

You could order an extra tread nosing to match and cut a 45 deg. on one end and cut a short return for the open ended steps.
