October 24, 20169 yr I don't quite know what to call this. There is a recurve on the rim where the bowl turns in on itself and is hollowed inside. I'm working on a second one now from the other half of that log. This one has been put away to dry.
October 24, 20169 yr Hey Cliff, and all our bowl makers, you guys could make some lovely sounding bowls with your skills, I've seen Cliff make some pretty big bowls, I think it would be fun. The sounding bowls are all different sizes, big one to little ones.

I would have to be a Roadie because my musical skills.....Well, lets just say I have none. Cliff, that is a nice bowl you have started. I like the undercut rim and they really take a skilled turner to do them. One false move and it is all over. BTDT. I would like to see it when it is finished.
November 8, 20169 yr I admire you guys that can turn stuff like that. Keep posting those pictures, love them. Herb

November 8, 20169 yr Nice shape on that, and that's a big undercut. Do you have any special plans for the rim? As far as embellishing it I mean. Going to be nice either way. Steve

I have a bunch of elm log pieces and I'm working on my skill level at gouge presentation. The under cut is a thing that I did on my second and third bowl ( the first one blew up on the lathe) It's a theme I'd like to pursue a little longer.
November 9, 20169 yr I like it. I don't have the skill level or tools. I'm impressed with your turning

November 21, 20169 yr Author The warping that makes these blanks go oval is because of a branch that ran through the log. The blanks stretched like a magical force was out on the ends of the branch pulling the bowl out of shape.
November 27, 20169 yr Not sure how I missed this one, Cliff, sorry! Great looking bowls and that top re-curve is super. Looks like your shop made hollowing rig is working as you expected.
