In spite of harvest activities, We have made it an annual activity to go out the second weekend in October for a fall festival somewhere.  The last several  years, it has been Illinois' Spoon River Drive and we did so again this year.  The day was beautiful and I found a few cool items too!  Most of these items were 1 or 2 bucks and were found at roadside sales throughout the drive area.  The group of vises and the rotary table set me back 40 bucks for all.  The egg beater is a Goodell-Pratt 259 and Millers Falls hand vise added 10 more.  The drill appears to be very well built and has a ball bearing spindle, ratcheting crank, and shiftable gearbox.  The breast drill I picked it up for parts. The pig stickers were picked to add some sizes to ones already in my shop and the back saw was a request from my wife's uncle.  It is cleaned and sharpened and ready for him to take home.  The leather shears are kinda cool and show an 1859 patent date on the brass cap.  They also have been through my tank.  And did I mention the NOS Saw files with superficial rust? They got an overnight vinegar soak and look very sharp and usable now.  I will test them soon enough!  There is also a skew rabbett plane with good iron and a broken wedge that will need replacement and a fence for an early Stanley 46.

Family, food, finds, and fun!  Not ready for winter!image.jpeg

Nice picking. Great job on the back saw...cleaned up really nice! You stole, 'er made off good ;) on the vices and that rotary table. It will take a little cleaning, but you're going to have a very nice addition there.

Had to look up Spoon River Drive "Festival" / Fulton county...never had heard of it; now I realize I missed some opportunities traveling to E. Peoria & Peoria a few years back.

Our big one started yesterday and runs through next Sunday...Parke County (IN) Covered Bridge Festival. Hit one of the "up road" flea market areas today...found another Yankee Handyman 41Y for $3. It had  7 bits in it, but (2) were 1/16"...one broken in half, the other looked brand new.

Used to come down and camp at Crawfordsville every year with my father-in-law and the family.  We would hit Rockville, Bridgeton, and Mansfield through the weekend and the Steam Corners Flea market on the way out on Monday.  I havent been there now in a few years.  When my FIL passed a couple years back, we kind of changed direction a bit.  Spoon River is smaller to be sure but I have had some good finds there.  I just love to get out in October for this stuff.  Miss the Bridgefest, though!

Didn't make it to Steam Corner today...only got to Veedersburg...That one has grown a lot. Several new vendors from years past and almost all was flea market finds with some re-purposed stuff.

The last couple of years we've been skipping Mansfield and just going to Bridgeton...a few more vendors have been setting up along 41 to Rockville, along 36 both directions from Bellmore and even on 59 from Bellmore to Brazil. Folks I talked to today said the first 2 days have been really good.

Where did you camp in C'ville? I'm in the same county, northwest ~13 miles.

Can't speak for Bundoman...there are a few around here...most think their stuff is clad in pure gold.

I have a couple places to wander through in the winter but as Grandpa said, not too many bargains.  The auction house in town sometimes is fun but hit and miss!   My favorite antique mall just closed due to retirement of the owner.  It just isnt as good in the winter here.

Nice bunch of hardware for the last big sale.  The rotary vise gets the drool coagulating.

KOA in Crawfordsville.  I brought our trailer down a few years then turned to camping cabins later.  It was fun!  As for the backsaw, my wifes uncle asked me to find him one if I could and this one popped up pretty quickly. It is unmarked and not top quality but a good throw around saw for the workbench.

I believe it was made by Palmgren, Dan.  I was pretty excited about it because I know they can be very expensive when new and I have wanted one for awhile but never thought I would find one so inexpensive.
