October 15, 20169 yr if you are truing up the saw or pulling maint.. nothing... other than the plug showing it's unplugged.. and since the saw isn't in use.. insert is removed and the guard is up off of the fully raised blade... if the blade was turning.. plenty..
October 15, 20169 yr Uh, the blade is on backwards? Unless maybe you were going to cut vinyl siding or aluminum cans.

Sheesh, sometimes I amuze myself. Dave, it's been a long time since I cut laminate, but that was a good little trick, turn the blade around.

October 15, 20169 yr I put the chippers, for the dado blade, in backwards once. Made a real funny noise and burned pretty bad.

October 15, 20169 yr I thought you were trying a new safety feature - hard for you cut you finger if the teeth do not engage
October 15, 20169 yr Author It's funny, cuz I was thinking about the bandsaw safety topic when I installed the blade.
October 15, 20169 yr Similar to leaving the lathe in reverse and trying to turn with it. But who does that?

October 16, 20169 yr Been using a bandsaw for 45 years. Not too many years ago I recieved a new 3/8" blade, typically coiled and secured with twist ties. I carefully untied and uncoiled the blade and installed it. Turned on the saw and tried to saw a piece. It wouldn't cut. My first though was that they sent me a dull blade. Then I saw that the teeth were pointing UP! My second thought was that they'd welded it backwards. It took me 10 minutes of angry thoughts about the supplier until I figured it out.
October 16, 20169 yr And who here has done the same with a chain saw chain? I started to change chains once, caught myself before I adjusted the tension Have seen people try to cut wood with a backward chain

October 16, 20169 yr I have done that once or twice, also have done it on the bandsaw, getting the teeth upside down. Something that happens fairly often to me is running my lathe in reverse and then forgetting to change the direction and trying to cut. Fortunately it never takes more than several attempts at cutting, sharpening my tools, and then only a few more attempts at cutting before I figure it out. Steve
