Sorry for being ignorant but my detla band saw with fence only has markings from the fence toward the outside.

Often times if you need to cut something that does not fit in the inside you cut from the outside.

We is the problem with cutting on either side of the blade?

Sorry with is the problem/challenge of using either side of the blade and as I said my saw by default is setup to cut on the outside.

I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous!    Groucho Marx, I think. :D

Great job Dan. Had a thought on the tab. Instead of welding one on drill a hole in the metal tab and tighten the bolt onto it, gravity will keep the tab in a downward orientation.

Thanks Gerald.  I found a bolt with a large head.  I think it was intended to be used for an adjustable foot on a bench of other.  Ground part of the head off so it wouldn't hit the bottom of the fence.  Works well.  Similar to this one.

primary use/design is hold together canvas and rubber belts used in grain/man lifts/elevators and other conveyer systems. The large diameter of the head and square neck creates a greater bearing surface to keep the bolt from going through the soft conveyer material.
