Rear Leg Rocker at Arm

Featured Replies

Working on the rear legs of this rocker. I am planing the faces true and flat for the seamless leg to arm joints. This face must be dead on flat and smooth in order for the arm to mate up properly.

The imperfections must be planned away.

It doesn't look like much yet. But it will be!

Looks good to me so far!

nice to see such talent...

Pretty sure I'll never make something such as these, but I'm enjoying the learning process as you share your progress. Thanks!

Yall are too kind, thanks so much. These are fun, and nerve racking at times too, there are definitely some "Come to Jesus" moments in the execution of these chairs. I come so far with one single component, hours of labor in it, and one wrong move, it's trash. But hey, that's what makes woodworking woodworking!

Thanks Dave, we should be something that resembles a chair soon enough! At this point you guys are probably thinking, what the heck is that!

That's true Gene, could turn it into something else for sure if anything went south.

I love seeing how this joint comes together. Looks good to me and like Gene said repurpose it. With turners we save it for years till the right application comes around

Speaking of joints Gerald, I know there are some purists here who don't believe in screws for chair joinery, well, got some news for yall, yer gonna see some screws!

I'd ruin that piece as soon as I'd pick up the hand plane.

You would get much farther than me Lew before it was ruined.:P

Hand plane?  Naw, I'll pass.  Don't mind if I watch though.  Looking good.
