September 23, 20169 yr A buddy just dropped off a Buck Brothers gouge that needs a handle. TUrning it is no problem but I need to get an idea of the proportions of the original handle- which is missing. This is what I have- If anyone can direct me to a site that would have a picture of this particular chisel, I'd be grateful! Edited November 21, 20178 yr by Ron Dudelston tags added
September 23, 20169 yr Try this LINK. It looks about the same size but does not specify the width. Roly
September 23, 20169 yr Does this help Lew? No dimensions but.... You could scale the handles in proportion to the irons, and see if there is a common factor.

September 23, 20169 yr Lew, you had better go play the lottery because today is your lucky day. When I first got into turning a friend of mine gave me some turning tools his grandfather had owned and this carving chisel was with them. It is also a Buck Brothers. Yours looks to be inch and a half. This one looks like one and a quarter. The overall length is 15 inches. Here it is measured from the blade end. Here it is measured from the handle end. Here is a handle close-up. The large diameter of the handle is inch and a half. If you need anything more? Let me know. Edited September 23, 20169 yr by HandyDan

September 24, 20169 yr Author Thanks for all of the suggestion. Mine came out a little differently shaped but I think it'll be OK. No finish, my friend can add it if he wants a finish. Scrap of walnut- Not completely seated in case he wants to add a finish.
September 24, 20169 yr John your set you show there looks like the handles are a bit undersized to me. I think I have better control with something twice that big to grip.... Maybe its because I am a weakling and size does matter..

September 25, 20169 yr That looks great Lew! I'm sure he will enjoy it for many years to come. Love the walnut.
