John Morris Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworker's! What did you do over the weekend, and what projects do you have lined up for the week ahead? Well here we are, embarking on yet another grand week of life as we head into one of my favorite times of the year, Fall! I know some of our woodworkers in the Mid-West and East-Coast may be starting to prepare for Fall and Winter. Since I live in Southern CA, there really isn't anything we do on a traditional basis to prepare for the Winter months, most of us West Coast folks rejoice at the chance of rain! So, we have just fired up our brand new Home Improvement along with the Patio and Outdoors forums for our members to show off their home improvement and outdoors projects, feel free to drop in and show us what your up to, we know many of you must be doing something to get prepped for the cold season ahead. Here are some ideas that you could discuss at the Home Improvement forums, since Fall is ready to fall upon us. Weatherizing your windows for the cold and wet season ahead, what did you use? Installing leaf guards on your gutters, which system works? Repairing your roof or simply sliding that one shingle back in place, what did you use for the adhesive? Installing the bottom seal of your exterior entrance door, how'd ya do it? Splitting logs for the long winter ahead, what kind of splitter do you own and would you recommend it to others? There are many small items we do on a yearly basis that we take for granted, that would actually make a great Home Improvement topic. So feel free to head on into our new HI Forums and share your pre-Fall and pre-Winter projects with us! Latest Quick Tutorials (How do you do x and y?) HandyDan Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 Good morning to you John. Saturday I enjoyed some time with my brother and in the afternoon I finished making a fence for the band saw and posted it here for all to see. Yesterday I took a day to relax and visited with a friend in the afternoon. Plans for the week will start off with pushing some wood through the band saw to make some turning blanks. Quote
Gene Howe Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 Coffee is done ... BRB. Got another ottoman nearly ready for finish. Need to take the finished one to the upholsterers. Hopefully, pick up Morris #1. That's a half day shot. Living where we live, it's a half day trip to have any specialized work done. Heck, it's a two hour trip for groceries. Longer when the wife shops. At least, we don't have to contend with traffic. If every thing goes as planned, Morris #2 will be ready for finish by the end of next week. Then, on to the rifle cases. Chips N Dust Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 This week, I am planning on putting my router table together and getting that set up. I want to put storage underneath it, so some planning will have to happen for that. I had a fairly productive weekend in the shop and hoping it will continue this week. John Moody 1 Quote

John Moody Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 No woodworking or shop work over the weekend. Had family day at America Freight Car where both my sons work. Sunday afternoon just rested. I missed a step on the ladder the other day and twisted my good knen so this morning I'm at the bone and joint dr to get it checked. Maybe nothing but it hurts when I walk. Depending on on what the dr says, I'll be getting things ready for Ron and Dorothy to arrive later this week. Stocking up on M&M's. Quote

Gene Howe Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 Scratch the trip to the upholsterers. They have a funeral to attend. Morris#1 isn't done, anyway. Hopefully, next week. Quote
Gerald Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 Began work on some angel Christmas ornaments Friday. Pics later. This morning I went to the church to salvage some parts of pews being removed and will make commemorative boxes for donations to church funds. It is hymnal racks and other bits and pieces and will have to do a prototype for display. Right now vegetating and thinking of going out to unload the truck. These nearly 69 yo muscles just ain't up to that anymore. Quote
Grandpadave52 Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 Friday started making a small bench assembly table for reclaimed/purposed/salvaged material. Interrupted by weather...Saturday was a "washout" literally (a) rain and shuttling grand-daughters to/from events; Sunday was a "no-back" day...managed to watch a few specials about 9-11 on Smithsonian Network, then the Colts struggle to figure out a way to lose their game in the waning seconds. Today normal chores and restarting the mow-a-thon...maybe some sanding on bench legs later this evening; daily mowing and trimming remainder of the week interrupted by shuttle service and a couple volley-ball matches...hopefully some shop time in between. Charles Nicholls Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 I actually have been trying to get my internet back since Friday evening. Apparently Friday around quitting time there was an incident where gasoline got spilled into a hole where there was some exposed internet cable, well it ate it in pretty short order, and it took to today to get me back online, because of several missteps with repair services. As for what I am doing this week, I have a few DR appointments that I will be taking care of and I want to get back on the lathe. It's like I have been away from it so long that I am forgetting how to turn LOL. Quote
Joeb41 Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 I am doing serious shop maintenance in and out. I'm replacing all exterior trim with Azek trim boards. My days of getting on a ladder to paint trim are over. My interior dusting before winter is putting a fan in every door and window and using an electric leaf blower to kick all the dust loose. Sounds crude but it works. Check my heating system to make sure it's ready when the cold comes. Quote
Al B Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 I did get into the shop to repair the adjustable box joint jig.I had damaged. Got is set up for 1/4" fingers. fine tuning required a little spray glue to attach a piece of paper to the spacer. .Sunday, it looked like the Colts would win in the closing minutes, but ended up loosing in the closing seconds of the game. Also watched the Patriots get lucky with a missed FG by the Cardinals in the closing seconds to hold on to a 2 point lead. The young QB looked OK, but the pats defense left a bit to be desired. Today, I raised a lot of dust while mowing my water starved lawn. Quote

Thanks to all who chimed in and told us all! One thing we can all be sure of, I gotta tell yall, as much as I do not want to rush life, I sure am envious the time you retirees have available!
