August 27, 20169 yr Gerald and I have discussed a tailstock support for delicate turning, such as tree ornaments. Your tailstock must have bearings to do this. I found some very stiff foam at Micheals that is 1" in dia and about inch long. I fashioned a holder made of oak, pressed the foam in and drilled a tapered hole to accommodate the piece. I have not tried it yet, but will report when I do.
August 28, 20169 yr Cool idea, Ron! My tailstock center is the bearing type but the point is not removable. I make a "cover" end to protect the turnings. I'm going to modify mine to look more like yours for some applications.
August 28, 20169 yr Author The one I have I got because there are 5 centers of different types that fit in. There is a strong magnet that keeps them there.

I looked at that one. Some of the reviews said the tolerances between the different centers and the hole wasn't very good and there was some wobble. Did you find this to be true??
August 28, 20169 yr Looks like a good idea. What section was it in at Michael's and what was the name/description on the package?
August 28, 20169 yr Author I did find that a couple of the tips were looser than others. However I only use a couple of them most of the time. There a couple that I have no idea what they are used for. I turned a couple of large ones out of Oak that work well, mostly in centering. The main tip holder with the bearings is true and tight.
August 29, 20169 yr Author Dan, they came in a package of 15 and cost maybe 3 bucks. I can't tell you the section, but here is the label. I did try it out just for a test and it did seem to work, however it was a short test and I can't tell you much.
