A small bowl with some zentangle patterns

Featured Replies

Did this one a few months ago. There are four zentangle patterns on this bowl, the main basket weave pattern is called "W2". I don't know why, that's just what it's called. The bowl itself is maple, turned to finish green and is about 3/8" thick. Don't know if you can tell from the pictures but it has a nice warp to it.

Steve, that is really nice, and organic, and relaxing. Nice work on your Zentangle.

Ok, so, I had no idea Zentangle even existed until my youngest girl, who is a sophomore in high school, took ceramics this year for her elective. The first day of class her ceramics teacher showed the students what Zentangle is, and for them to draw Zentangle as their first assignment. I am guessing this was done to spur their creative juices and get them relaxed and having fun. Some of the Zentangle my girl created was really awesome, or at least I think it is, shucks, I am a dad after all. I then researched where Zentangle came from and it turns out it has a really wonderful history behind it, the method of drawing Zentangle was and is used for meditation, relaxation, and such. I know you knew this, but I wanted to display some depth here in my own knowledge, or lack thereof.

Your Zentangle looks wonderful. Looks like you have some experience drawing this style, love it!

Wonderful Steve!!

Steve... your work sure is 1st rate...

Steve, you are quite the artist in addition to your turning skills.  Very nice!

Thanks to all!

John, you nailed it about Zentangle, from what I've read there is  evidence of health benefits just from drawing the patterns. Amazing!

I want to stress that everything on this bowl is a pattern I learned from watching some youtube zentangle artists, most notably Ellen Wolters There are others who are very good but she is my favorite.

Dan, the credit goes to Zentangle it is an amazing art form. Believe me, if I can do it, the vast majority here can do it better. I'm the kid who flunked coloring books in school, never did get the hang of staying inside the lines! :)

Lew, the bottom pattern in called "phicops in a circle" and you can see how easy it is to draw by searching Ms. Wolters youtube channel.

Thanks again everyone!

Pretty bowl, Steve. And, thanks for the links. Might try this one some flat work, since I'm not  turner.

Love this one and yes I will be looking at the links. Got a touch of Zentangle from Dixie Biggs. The First one is mine and the second is the one Dixie did and I won the Raffle for it.

Thank you Gerald but wow, Dixie's got nothing on you, both of those bowls are beautiful. They are a great example of how versatile is Zentangle. The same patterns on both but the look from one to other is very different. Thanks for sharing this.

Steve

I don't know who this Dixie guy is, but l like yours much better

If you do not know Dixie's work look HERE
