August 24, 20169 yr Rather than keep going on a too long of a post, maybe a "part 3" would work better? Box was set free of the clamps.....needed a bit of clean up Yeah...gaps, pins sticking up....Ve haft vays.... The #3 plane needed sharpened, good thing I have others on standby... A little "detail work" with the 60-1/2, mainly the edges and the pins. Top edges needed a little bit, too.. Looking a bit better. Got all four sides planed smooth, pins no longer gap. Time for the lid's panel? Hmmm, might need a little bit of work.....well, this much...I use a machine... Just to get itall leveled out, still needs a bit of plane work ( in more ways then one..) Starting to look a bit better? Ends needed to be planed straight, as well Mouth on the plane is set nice and tight. Seems to work better than the #4. Panel still needs to be cut to final size, and a tongue milled on the edges. Frame pieces needed some work, as they were still wavy. And they need to be at least close to the same size. Millers Falls #14 ....square to check thickness. There is a screw at each end, both barely above the surface. One in the top, the other in the vise. Then I can tighten the vise to hold the slat in place. I can also stand each on an edge, and joint the edge.. I also had to make sure all four were the same width. You can see the screws. The back one was moved towards the vise, when the shorter parts were done. So...what is next? Well, I laid out a few toys... Which means I'll be doing more finger joints. Couple counties west of here now have Tornado "watches" going on....might need the shop for something other than woodworking?
August 24, 20169 yr Ya, know - when all the glue is cleaned up, extra wood is taken off, sanded good - no one will ever know what it looked like (top picture) Looking good
