May 2, 201610 yr Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers and guests! Here we go again, these weeks just keep rolling by with no reprieve in time. We are already almost half way through the year and I swear it feels like we ended the holidays not too long ago. Time is just flying way to quickly these days. As many may know our community is a big supporter of the MWTCA and all it stands for. I am a member myself and we try to put the message out as often as we can about the going on's of this fantastic organization. There is a big tool meet coming up in Des Moines, IA next month and if anyone is in the area, GO! As a matter of fact, many folks travel to these meets from hundreds of miles away. This meeting is for members only, so you need to join up before you go, membership is $25 per calendar year, and it includes some great quarterly issues of the Gristmill magazine, and one annual reproduction of an old trade manual or tools book. The benefits are many not too mention you are helping to keep this organization live and rolling with your dues. Here is the link to the information page for the event at http://www.mwtca.org/tool-meets/national-meet-information.html And if you do go, please take some pictures for those of us who are not able to attend! We'd love to see you and your images at this tool meet. Below is a copy of a past issue of the Gristmill, when you become a member you receive these wonderful magazines quarterly. And last but not least woodworkers, what are you up to this week! What did you do over the weekend! Please show us your projects images and be safe and sane this wonderful glorious week ahead!
May 2, 201610 yr Week is starting out on a low note. We are nursing a sick child (basset). Not much sleep so far.

May 2, 201610 yr Week started off great. Got ready to attach the back to the Morris chair an found that the side pieces (stiles?) were milled 3/8" too wide. Wonderful what idiot did that.

May 2, 201610 yr This is a crazy week for me. I'm on the local election board and Indiana primaries are Tuesday. Today (Monday) I spent all day traveling the area voting shut ins at nursing homes and the like. Tomorrow is Election Day and I gave to be at the courthouse at 5 am ready for the polls to open at 6. I'll be traveling throughout the county all day tomorrow making sure the voting goes smoothly and fairly. After the polls close at 6 pm the election board is responsible for tallying and publishing the votes. After that, I head to party HQ long enough to make a showing. It'll be a long day.

Where does the polling have Cruz and Trump Ron?

May 3, 201610 yr After building display cases for the gravity clocks, the client wants a new ramp for another clock that keeps time by rolling down an incline. The new ramp will be 10' long so the clock can run 4-5 days before being reset. The picture shows the example clock and ramp that I have to pull details from. The clock I have is an antique that has not been repaired yet, but it allows me to get all the dimensions for design from it.
May 3, 201610 yr working on cutting boards and a cedar chest this week. Finished 12 edge grain boards over the weekend.

May 3, 201610 yr Hey Todd, the first gravity clock I understood. This one is mystifying. What keeps it from rolling to the bottom? Are you going to box it in? Curious minds...etc.

Curious minds...etc. Gene, the picture shows the sample ramp I was given, and one thing that is missing is a stop block at the bottom. The clock rolls down the ramp and has to hit a stop block of some sort. Another thing to point out: The outer body of the clock rotates as it rolls down the incline and the face normally stays properly oriented. But this one is not functioning at this time. Once I get done with it, the owner will repair it. He has several and is scavenging parts to repair and rebuild functioning clocks.
May 3, 201610 yr Ahh so. I'm guessing that there is some mechanism between the outer ring and the clock that regulates the rate of descent down the incline. I'd also guess that you'll have to calculate the slope to insure accuracy. It's going to be an interesting build, for sure. Wish I could be there to watch. (Pun intended)

I will provide a mounting and pivot point in the middle of the track. I will probably do the install with the client and he will be able to adjust the slope using the pivot point. He determines the length and slope. I build it to length with ability to pivot.
