Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 I'm not much of a hand tool guy, but today I picked up a Disston D8 panel saw. It appears to be a 26", 10TPI, crosscut model and really has no damage other than poor care. You can barely make out the Disston markings on the blade, and I'd really like to restore this for occassional use as well as just the cool factor of having it. BTW, this saw cost me the princely sum of $2.50 plus Ohio ransom at the Restore. Is there a way to clean the blade of the rust and not damage the markings? steven newman 1 Quote

steven newman Posted February 5, 2016 Report Posted February 5, 2016 (edited) Simple Green and a few Scotch Brite pads. use a razor blade scrape to scrape off the worse of the rust. or...just bring it down here.... Edited February 5, 2016 by steven newman Quote
Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted February 6, 2016 Author Report Posted February 6, 2016 (edited) Thanks, Steven. A generous offer I may take you up on. It may take me a while to work this out, but I'll keep it in mind...I also have a plane I'd like to ask you about. When things slow down a little I'll message you to set up a time. In the meantime, I may give the saw a preliminary cleaning. Thanks again! Edited February 6, 2016 by Fred W. Hargis, Jr Quote
