Walnut Bench started (pip)

Featured Replies

After we delivered the Cherry Top on Saturday we came back to the shop and got started on another project, a Walnut Bench.

I got all of the pieces rough cut and over sized.

Then ran them across the joiner and though the planer. Squared up the legs and cut the mortices on two sides.

So it is underway and I hope to finish it in the next week. Ran out of time on Saturday so that was as far as we got.

I'll post more pictures as I get further along.

Gonna make a mighty pretty bench!

Thanks!!

That's a huge bench John! You guys sure got a ton of walnut there, we could never dream of using Walnut that liberally, in my neck of the woods we'd be building those big legs with 4/4 mitered to give it a thick appearance, instead of using real 4x4. That's some nice looking walnut too, does it have a specific Walnut species name, such as American Black or something like that?

Have you figgered out how to cut the tenons on those 57 inch runners?
