September 7, 201510 yr Hitch a ride down to West Liberty,OH today. A fellow was kind enough to stop by, and pick me up. Wound up walking all around the place, very little shade, too. Lots of vendors, lots of food vendors, lots of tractors. Walked past one tent, they had these sitting out.. They might have more than I do....Walked on a bit, actually walked across the aisleway. Found out some planes were made of Gold.. The Keen Kutter hatchet? $55, that Stanley 45? $160!! I didn't even ask about them bits. Wasn't all this fellow had.. That incomplete 45? $110, that Stanley #48 with a missing cutter? $120!! He had a few hand planes of the "normal sort" Don't ask. I walked away from this one. Found a few items in some of the other vendor's piles. Wound up walking almost two miles, in two hours...There was one dealer, also had some planes of gold, but... There is the $1 table, and the Back Table to go through. Found a few chisels, and then a few handles for them. Then a couple drivers of sorts. Moseied on, found a few other items. Got to the point that I was not only shopped out, but was about out of cash. Mountain Dew was $2 a bottle! Loaded up the goodies, and the fellow drove me back home. DMV says I am not allowed to drive right now.... So, what all did I bring home? Well, these chisels, from a couple vendors. Yellow handle is a Fulton. The LONG one is a "Globe" there is a WARDS in there, and a 1/4" Mortise chisel. had to dig for some of the handles. Next.. Not sure about the screwdriver one, the push drill is a Millers falls 188A, with ALL of it's bits, We checked to make sure, as there was 8 of these to choose from..Next.. Two stones, with their boxes. part of a deal, of sorts. i buy the stones, and this #4 sized, plane shaped object.... A Handyman #1204. It does have the more normal rear handle. More walking around, forgot where the truck was.....stopped by one more vendor, they had a red object sitting in the grass, looking neglected A Craftsman 7" wide vise. paid a whopping $10 for it! now, I just have to figure out HOW to attach it to my bench, and where. For some reason, I am a bit worn out tonight. Other than attaching some handles to a few chisels....I simply flopped down in my chair. Whew....long day...
September 7, 201510 yr A lot of gold tools listed on Craigs List Tools in Detroit Area. Unbelievably high prices.
September 7, 201510 yr Author Ok, checked my files. That $45 Stanley #7 two years ago was the same as what he had this year...same price, too. Ok, here goes with the restores Seem to have this Stanley Handyman No. 1204 smooth plane about rehabbed up. Traded a couple handles around. Next.. These are the shorter chisels. Not sure about the 1-1/2" wide one. The 3/4" is a Stanley. 1/4" is a Wards , and the fancy one is a 1/2" wide Fulton, with a metal end cap. Middle two needed handles installed. had to dig around to find them. Next.. The two LONG chisels. The 11/16" wide one is a Globe (??) and the other is a 1/4" Mortise chisel....unknown name. It also needed a handle. next.. A Millers falls no. 188A. Took a bit to find one with all 8 bits on board. Not sure about the driver. I can change out any driver bit I have on it. Not sure IF the handle is wood...or Bakelite? Bout $7 sitting there. next up? $5 for a pair og stones, with their OEM boxes. Shorter one is listed as a "Fine" grit. need to work on getting this next item installed on my bench.. Might put this on the end of the bench. Might be easier to do. I might have enough lumber for that job...just have to go out and buy some hardware.... Didn't do too badly, for spending about $35 or so?
