Here is the first pen I have made from the surf gel blank.  It was very hard  and brittle but turned out well.

I have a problem with this technology. Yes it is beautiful, no it is not wood, but it looks so artificial and plastic that I couldn't work with it.I don't want you to think I am mean or don't appreciate the work that is put into it. However I feel that if I worked to make one perfect out of this material, NO ONE would appreciate the craftsmanship it took to make. Only a fellow woodworker knows what it took to create this neat pen.

I tend to agree.  This is also why I don't turn many acrylic blanks.  Most everything I do is in wood.  I may combine things to make them different but that is yet another post to be done.

Cool. 

 I goggled for surf gel and got  nothing at all that one might make a pen from.

 

What is surf gel?
