I have a Delta 1 1/2 HP dust collector in my shop that for the most part does a good job. I have 4" PVC pipe run to all of my machines and usually only have one gate open at a time. However there are times when I have help in the shop and we are using multiple machines and just don't get enough air flow to pull on the machines. My Delta table saw is the worse of the bunch. I have the overhead guard/dust collector and pulling off the bottom but it just doesn't get the enough pull.

 

I am thinking of going to a 3 hp to get the higher CFM's and to allow multiple machines to run at the same time. I have been reading  a few reviews but no real good comparisons. I really like the looks of the Laguna, but the few reviews I have read were not good, talking about leaks and missing parts and trouble getting replacement parts.

 

Have any of you seen a recent comparison by any of the Wood Working Magazines lately? I would really be interested in what they have to say.

Also here is a very detailed overview of DC's by Bill Pentz who done a great deal of research of airflow and design on DC's. The technology hasn't really changed much over the years but the claims of DC manufacturers are fuzzy at best. Note that there are all kinds of arguments out there about the best type of cyclone units as well as medical claims from dust causing sickness. Bill Pentz and Onieda and others have been calling each other names for years, so do your due diligence and get something bigger than you think you need. Ideally getting the unit outside of the shop in its own separate enclosure with larger duct work into the shop will really cut down your shop noise.

I use my dust collector for the bigger stuff. Mostly my table saw. Other then that I use a shop vac. Yeap pain in the keester. Till I get a "new" shop I have to make due. There are systems out there that pull a lot more cfm and an over hear air filteration system does wonders. Please keep us posted on your progress. I have read 6" is more efficient then 4" but the system I have is not big enough for that.

Well right now this is the one that I have chosen. It is the Grizzly G0562ZP, 3HP, 2300 CFM Dust Collector. It should be delivered to the shop sometime this afternoon. The best guesstament they would give me is between 12:00 and 5:00 pm. I am going to have to do some temporary re-wiring to get it running and then we are going to redo the wiring to the shop all together. This one is a 240 12amp unit where my older Delta was a 110v 15amp.

 

I'll let you all know how well it goes in and how much difference it makes on the dust collecting.

Looks like a good one.  The price is certainly reasonable and the cartridge filters are seemingly the way to go. We'll be awaiting a review.

The new Grizzly DC has arrived at the shop. I will be doing a bit of re-wiring this weekend to get things ready for it. I have got to bump up the juice feeding the shop so I can add a couple more 220 circuits. 

 

 

 

Three good size boxes to get unpacked.

 

I will be running new wire to the shop from the house and putting in a new panel in the shop. This should really take care of my future needs.

 

Can't wait to get this new addition acquainted with the rest of the tool family in the shop.

Your Grizzly looks like a clone to this one from powermatic (or maybe the powermatic is a clone to the Grizzly.  They sure do look alike and the specs are real close):

wow they do look a lot alike.

i do have it all connected and ran just a short test before my surgery. My son was making tables Saturday and put it through a pretty good run however i wasn't out there to really evaluate it.

 

in a week or so i will be ready and I'll give it a test and write a review.
