June 18, 201510 yr I have been tinkering with cane making. I made one and it didn't come out as I had planned. However it did give me a better idea. So I got out some Walnut and Maple put my idea to work and came up with this one. I like it, it is light, strudy and looks good too. Edited December 5, 20178 yr by Ron Dudelston tags added
June 19, 201510 yr That's a beauty, Ron! Here's the web site of a lady who makes custom canes- http://gallerymh.ipower.com/index.html Maybe you can get some ideas.
May 12, 20179 yr That is a neat way to add interest. Something you might want to try is a twist cut into the cane to provide an interesting pattern.
May 12, 20179 yr Canes are on my to do list. I'd like to make a few that have a "V" pattern similar to a pool cue. But, I have no idea about how to cut the pieces to make that pattern. Can you turners give me some guidance?

Best bet is to hit the pawn shop and buy a stick you like and make a cane out of it.
May 12, 20179 yr Thanks, Dan. Very interesting. I had in mind a much simpler design. One that could be laid up before turning. Like this one.
