Popular Woodworking Free Plans

Featured Replies

Not a huge fan of Popular Woodworking Lew.  Their plans seem to have an over-abundance of errors.

Nice looking Shaker piece Lew. Pretty basic, I always use plans as a guideline, not a written in stone way to build. So plan errors never bothered me. But that may have something to do with my background at my day job, I deal with plans that are 600 sheets big, roadway designs, cross sections, bridge layout, abutment construction, details, and they are peppered with errors! You just learn to work around them.

What I look for in woodworking plans the most is inspiration and a general guide for the "how to". That Shaker cabinet has a lot of great ideas in it, the slot, the nails, the varying thickness's of the panels, very cool stuff.

That is something I have learned relatively recently from all kinds of plans is to vary the thickness of the panels in whatever I'm building. I used to build everything with the default 3/4" thick lumber as pre-milled from the lumber store.

But as I started looking at plans like this, I started to vary the thickness of the boards being used, it really gives a classy look and hand made feel to the work.

Plans.....
