Had a few ready to use handplanes sitting out.

Not the safest place to sit.    If the grinder is in use, they start to "walk" around a bit.

Had some leftovers from the Screen door build.   A 7" wide plank could provide two sides, IF cut just right.   And still provide a "bottom"

Laid out a few lines, and cut a few boards into something...smaller.    Clamped two sides into the vise, and jack planed the sawn edges smooth and even

Then laid out some counter-bored holes to attach them to the bottom.    Had a 1x with a LOT of wane, it became the top divider, after I had planed to wane to a better looking bevel.

Next, wanted a center support, as the face of this thing will be a thin plywood scrap.   1 x 4 was cut to length.  Location marked out, and a couple counter-bores drilled.   Then a smaller drill for pilot holes

Then some 1/4" Luann Plywood was added.  Was a bit long.   Nailed off one edge, then a pipe clamp to pull things square

Then a saw to trim the plywood to size.   Next, some sticks of "cap" molding were added.   One along the bottom, where the bottom stuck out.   More to provide a lip for the planes to sit on.  post-3502-0-83692000-1416943381_thumb.jp

Then two up the sides to cover that gap between the plywood and the pine.   A second one was then fitted over it, as a lip on each side.   Clear the old shelf of plane, add a couple extra pads out front to the 2x2 feet ( needed just a bit more tilt back)  and screw the new "home" in place.    Then "LOAD'EM UP!"

Might just work out.   They needed a home, and I got rid of some scraps.    Maybe two hours of puttering around.  One more look

That LONG plane is a DE6c @ 18" long.  There is also a #5-1/2, three #5s, a 5-1/4 and three smooth planes.   I think it will do, for now...

There are  a few other iron bodies around, but they reside in the tool chest.   There are some BIG woodies as well.   They will be heading for the tool chests as well.   Mainly Tool Chest #1.

These are just the ones i use almost all the time.  The rest?  They are sometimers.....sometimes they get used, sometimes they don't...

Love it Steve, the re-purposing of your screen door material, the design, the angle, all very cool. You have given me an idea now to get my planes in a useful position. I have put off a hand plane till for a long time because I was thinking I had to do something extravagant, but this is very useful, stylish, and practical, I may be posting some images that may look like your till, hope you don't mind me borrowing your design.

By the way, thanks so much for tagging your topic Steve, it is very helpful for folks to find related content. Also I'd like to thank you completely for staying to top of naming your images, I'd like to thank everyone in fact, thanks!!!

that's a lot better than mine which are sitting in a drawer

Exactly John! Time to get mine up and ready to use!

Great Christmas Card Picture Steve.

I love the way you have them up like that. I have mine on a shelf and it really doesn't display them like this does. I'm with John, I may be borrowing your design and changing the way I have mine displayed.

Clever, and nice storage.
