Some time ago, our Host of TAW and I started to talk about John's desire to build a small (960 SF) cabin near where he lives.  I said I would try to design one for him, and maybe some alternate designs.

Well, here they are.  Which one(s) do you like?   If you can't enlarge them, tell me and I'll post each one seperately.

Which one has a loft in it?

They all look nice to me. I do like the location of both decks. I like the bigger great room too. Really nice work Larry. bob

Nice work Larry but one big flaw. Where are the power tools?

I am sitting by Larry waiting for the final vote before I pitch mine in the hat! I loved all of them, but there is one I reeeeally like, go ahead fellas, make your pick.113.gif

When John makes his pick, I will post a much larger image of his choice.  It will be bigger and clearer because I'll only show the one design.

I'm kinda anxious to see which one he likes best.. Come on, Gang..  Take part!

Larry

My OPINION (note its worth almost every penny you paid for it) is lose the closet in the second bed-room and make THAT the master bed. Reduce the size of the kitchen to a galley and INCREASE the "great room" to double-duty as dining. And move the deck TO the great roon and wrap it around the corner. Oh and with a steep enough pitch you can include a LOFT over the two bed rooms with a "ships ladder" in place of the closet.

Coat racks work.

But then I don't know what the criteria was for the drawing either and OPINIONS ARE LIKE ____ _______ . Now you heard from mine.

My vote is for revision 3 with the following suggestions.

I would move the washer/dryer to the back wall and extend counter space across the top of them. I would locate the range in an island and open the wall up between the kitchen and great room so they are one big open space only separated by the island.

Time's up, John!

I've gotten some good ideas and now you have to tell me which design is your favorite.  So let us know which one and I''ll re-do my CAD drawing to show only that design, which will be much bigger for everyone to see and comment further on.

NOW!

Larry

I'm coming Larry I'm coming!!! Thanks guys, for picking my cabin out, this has been a fun read. I do have an opinion on this. But first let me say, the cabin is going to sit on a 1/3 acre flat, with panoramc views to the south west over looking a huge valley and town in the far distance.

So with that in mind, what say you all to the actual placement of the cabin?

Thanks!

WHICH ONE?

Whatever one you choose, the screened-in porch should be facing that wonderful view you describe.  Then, when it's early evening and the cool breezes start to come in, you can retreat to your screened-in porch and quaff some ales while soaking in those wonderful views.

So, WHICH ONE?

Larry

As much as you would like to have the great view, with it facing the South West you are going to also have the evening sun on that side. That could be pretty hot to sit out in the evening. Is the deck covered?

Screened-in porch with a roof, John..

We have the same thing here  Ours faces west, but the roof takes care of the setting sun and the sunsts are awesome.  Wanna see some?

Larry.

Sure

John..  (And John), Here's three images.  I actually have about a hundred images that I have taken from our west facing deck over the years..

Revision 2 Larry!!!!

I love the extra long bathroom, and the screened in porch on all of them is perfect for those Southern CA nights and days, the property is up on a ridge, overlooking a huge panoramic valley and the breeze whips right up the valley.

The foot print is perfect, as they  all are, we built a two car garage/shop back in 2005 on one side of the property, and the cabin foot print will fit nicely next to the garage and leave room to walk around the cabin.I like no hallways Larry, in a home this size, hallways would be wasted space, and you nailed that one perfectly, thanks Larry! Your a heck of designer man.

You should making money on these.

I am happy you posted these, I still have the paper copies of three of them. So, how do I get the blues!

Great choice, John1.

Ya gotta realize, and so does everyone else, that there is jusy NO perfect house design.

Later tonight, after I do my design "magic,"  I'll post a larger, single print of Revision 2 for all the Gangs comments.

I'll consider every one, but John and I rule.. John1 first, after he hears my opines.

Gonna be fun!.

Larry

Here's John1s Cabin Design choice.  He picked Revision 2 for a lot of good reasons.

Note that there are two plan designs.  The Cabin is the same design in both, but the second one shows the wiring and screened-in porch options.

Come on, Gang..  Let us know what you think..  I hope someone knows how to enlarge these..  I don't.

I just found out that if you just click on the drawings, they will enlarge.

Larry

My Canvas Program will open to a size that would take up a whole wall.

I wondered why the images I posted were so small, so I thought if there was some text lurking way out there, which causes the images to be very small because it's trying to encompass the whole file.

I found it, way out there and erased it.

Here's another attempt to post larger images.
