Miter Guage

Featured Replies

I am looking to purchase a new miter gauge for my Unisaw.

Woodcraft has on sale right now the INCRA Miter Gauge V120 for $69.00. Any thoughts on this?

I also see the INCRA Miter Gauge 1000SE at 159.99. Your thoughts on the 90.00 or so difference in these two.

And for that matter are you using an aftermarket miter gauge and what are you likes and maybe dislikes about the one you have. I don't use it a lot, but I do need one and don't have one with this saw.

Give me your thoughts and advise.

John

Both guages have great rating in many different places or site. Rockler, woodcraft etc. One thing about iIncra is the make their product with accessories to further thier usage and tsylor to your specific needs. I personally am looking at the 1000SE so that when I get the funds availibe I can purchase it. Hope this helps .

I bought the V27 and I realy like it. I have a DUBBY cutoff fixture http://www.ptreeusa.com/dubby_details.htm that I like as well for my table saw. I use my V27 mostly on my bandsaw and disk sander.

Just a thought John. You may want to email Dan Wyatt and see if he can find you a delta miter gauge. I am sure3 it would be less expensive . I use mine a bit for certain things. I have another expensive gauge I bought years ago. I have used maybe a handful of times over the years. The regular miter gauge does 99% of what I need. bob

That's a good idea Bob.

Thanks for the suggestion..

I have the Kreg

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTvPMWR1dv63oDiuGZWQUwIt's ok....I don't like the plastic adjustments to keep it square. I do find I have to be gentle with it (that's just me) or I can whack it out of adjustment. The plastic adjustment seem to be soft, would prefer steel. Suppose I could buy some replacement allen screws made of steel. My only real gripe, I wish the stop on the fence would adjust out  further.

Also the pin that is inserted to retain and hold the angle set. Is wearing and hard to insert fully into the hole. I have had this guage about 4 years now and receives hobby usage. 106.gif

John, about a year ago I picked up a Craftman digital miter gauge on Craigs List just to see if I'd like it.  I had every intention of moving up to a higher end miter but I'm stiill using the Craftsman and I really like it's accuracy.  Maybe someday I'll spring for an Incra.

John, I have never used an after market miter gauge so no personal experience. (just stock). The stock one mostly suck.  I have heard a lot good 'stuff' about the Osborne EB 3. I think it's worth you time to research this miter gauge.

I know quite a few of the guys over on the Felder from really like the Osborne and have went to the extra expense to  have a machine shop make a custom bar so they will fit the the slot on their sliders.

Rich, that looks pretty good and it is on sale for 109.95 with free shipping right now.

Heck, I don't even bother with my incra anymore.

Use a crosscut sled and protractor to set a scrap piece for your guide edge.

john i also have the kreg miter gauge. i have had it about three years now and it works fine.  the angles are easy to set and very precise. the repeatability it there if you have to change angles for some reason.  my son and i recently built a model of a section of a twelve sided gable roof on a old time theater that we had to make multiple compound angle cuts on each side of the roof pieces that required us to swing the gauge to different angles and it turned out outstanding.  also it has a venier scale on it that adjusts to i believe 1/10 of an angle and if you need to there is a adjustment to 1/100 of an inch.  ps for bigger panels i use a cuttoff sled  just my experience paul

Thanks guys for all of the comments on what  you are using. I am the same as a lot of you, I use a crosscut sled for a lot of my cuts but I do find at times I need the miter gauge for a cut.

I read a lot of reviews yesterday and I think all of the ones mentioned here are excellent choices if someone it looking for one. I ordered the Osborne EB-3. I read a lot of reviews on it and they were all dead on. It is normally 159.00 and it was on sale for 109.00 and free shipping. I'll do a review of it here when I get it in an set up. If you are not familiar with it, it was the one you would have seen Norm Abram using in the later shows also. All of the comments I read said it was very accurate and easy to setup repeat cuts.

Anyway, thanks for your help and I'll let you know what I think when it arrives.

Wow, just got to say it came quick. I ran by my house today at lunch and there was the box with the Osborne miter gauge. Pretty quick for free shipping.

I'll let you all know how it goes together this weekend.

Cool John, I'll be waiting to see your review. I hope you like since I recommended it.

I'll let you know Rich. All of the reviews I read on it said it was dead on right out of the box. I am hoping it is that way with this one.

I have an older Incra (3000) and really like how it's dead on accurate. I would believe the other ones are just as accurate. I looked hard at the Osborne and really like it as well, I think what kept me away from it was the work required to switch it from the left to the right miter slot (and back).

Fast free shipping ? Wow now that is customer service. Keep us posted John and remember we like pictures .....  LOL.

Well I ordered the Osborne EB3 miter gauge and got it in pretty quick. Last night I got a chance to get it out of the box and set it up.

I must say, it was pretty straight forward and easier than I imagined. For the most part it is pre-assembled, so it is just unfold part of it and insert it into the angle adjustment, tighten the locking bolt and you are ready to go.

It come with adjustment screws to put in the miter bar to adjust it, but it was perfect when I slide it into my miter slot. No movement at all.

ning-100-3878-46904-49.jpg?width=721The fence is easily adjusted and the extension can be moved to either side by just loosening the bolt, pulling it out and inserting it in the other side. The two black thumb knobs in the back allow you to slide the fence over to set it as close to the blade as you need to be, of course without hitting the blade. I didn't not try it in the other miter slot and I will do that to let you know what it takes to move it over.

I did all of my shoulder cuts for the small table using the miter gauge and most everything was good. Here is the only thing I found so far to be a problem.

ning-100-3880-46904-5.jpg?width=721When you tighten the thumb knob for the stop it ends up going over the fence, which cause the piece to not sit flush up against the fence. You could add a piece of wood for a backer and it would set it out and this not be a problem. I tried to rotate the nut inside and change the location of the stop, but it seemed to still wind up sticking out over the top of the fence. A problem I will spend a little more time working on.

On the bottom of the red bar, there are stops so you can easily move it to the preset angels and know that you are locked in each and every time.

ning-100-3879-46904-5.jpg?width=721All in all I am very happy with it. The sale price and the free shipping certainly helped with the purchase.
