January 2, 201214 yr The menudo turned out great, John. Even my sons Mexican girl friend, who is one whale of a good cook, liked it. Little hot, though. My next foray into the kitchen all by myself will be John's wife's Guatemalan Tamales.John Moody said:Best of luck with the dish Gene. January 3, 201214 yr Author So how did your long weekend go? I didn't get to spend anytime of the cedar chest, instead I was working on a project in the house that has been hanging on the ToDo list for way too long. I got the tile down in our downstairs bathroom, got it grouted and the fixtures and vanity install over the weekend. I have the walls of the walk in shower tiled, so all I like is tiling the floor of the shower. So what about you, did you get your projects well on the way or finished, or did you do like me and take a detour?John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
January 3, 201214 yr I did not plan on getting anything done in the shop and I got nothing done in the shop. So I actually got done this weekend what I started out to get done this weekend, so that is a major victory and a great start for the New Year! Since my lumber supplier was closed since Saturday, today was their first day open. So I went and picked up about $70 worth of African Mahogany and Maple to make 2 large cutting boards, 4 trivets and 12 coasters in a striped 2 wood design pattern. I had a guy contact me from New York that they wanted a bunch of them for their home to match in with their decor. So who am I to say no. I also pulled out some poplar from the rack in the garage to make a few prototype frames for our church. They want 5 48"x48" panels for long term mounting on the wall some special type of printed media that will be semi-permanent and changed maybe 1-2 times per year or less. The media will be attached directly to the face of the plywood using some type of adhesive as opposed to being in rabbited slots from the rear. These will be made using a half sheet of 3/4" plywood of whatever species of wood they want and then I will wrap the edges and stain/finish them according to the color they want. For a sample I will make up a smaller one using some oak ply I have in the shop and wrap it in oak trim for them to see.I will also have to make about 7 more typical frames for rotating printed media so that they can be changed while hung on the wall by sliding them in from the top. I will make them up out of poplar and then take them some samples of different wood and stain for them to choose.
