January 6, 201214 yr Okay so here we are starting another year. The first Friday to kick off the new year with new woodworking projects. Many of us only spend a few hours in the shop during the week, so when the weekend gets here, we get all day to escape to our own domain. Jump in and share what you are working on, whether it is a woodworking project, home improvement, landscaping or any project you want to share with us.I finished up 2011 with an order for a cedar chest and got the panels glued up a couple of weekends ago. The past weekend I spent working on a long over due home improvement project. I got the ceramic tile down in the floor of our downstairs bathroom, got the fixtures set and the new vanity installed. So with good progress made on that, I have got to get the cedar chest to the next phase.I had intended to video the cutting of the dovetails for this chest, but I left the new camera at the office when I left yesterday and didn't have it at home when I got ready to cut them. The panels got cut to width and length last night and the dovetails cut on all the sides. I should get the bottom in and the box glued up this weekend and the top panel cut, planed and glued. I ordered three torsion hinges for the lid last week and one of them got back ordered. I am hoping it makes it here this week. I can get it ready to just do the install as soon as it arrives. So for me, the shop has the smell of cedar circulating in every crack and crevice right now. What's on your agenda for the weekend? Post pictures or tell us about your project. Let's get 2012 off to a good start with some quality shop time!John Moody John Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

January 6, 201214 yr Author Mike isn't it great when we get this way. So much to do - so little time. If we had all of the time, we'd be looking for something to do. We will be following along on the Cornsheller Restoration. Also I will be watching for an update on the knife block. January 6, 201214 yr Tonight, keeping the two grandsons seperated as they spend the night. When I get to the shop (maybe tomorrow afternoon) I have to make burial flag cases. Since I'm a Colts fan I won't be encumbered with playoffs.Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks

January 7, 201214 yr Actually I made a silverware case for them. A case that holds only forks. Stick a fork in them because they're done. Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
January 7, 201214 yr I plan to work late tonight on projects and get up early each morning and get as much mileage out of this weekend as I can. I have numerous bowls and a platter ready to turn, two sets of cherry kitchen tools to cut out on the band saw, and have three more hexagon potpourri boxes to complete.  So many projects, so little time!  Heading out to dinner now, and plan to hit the shop running when I get back.  SQ Happiness is wood chips flying!
January 7, 201214 yr Lewis,That sounds like a great project.  I'm looking forward to seeing it. Got any pictures to share?  SQLewis Kauffman said:Still prototyping the shop built drum sander.

January 7, 201214 yr We've had 3 real cold nights this week , like low 20's to high teens, so I spent those nights catching up on sleep. It's time to start playing catch up on some stuff I need to get done to build up some inventory. I have a gift shop in a local theater / art gallery that is wanting to carry some of my small stuff on consignment. Greghttp://www.thesawdustfactory.net/

January 7, 201214 yr My weeks and weekends will be filled for quite awhile. We bought a house in Ohio, so I'm camping out there doing a remodel on it so we can get moved. All my woodshop equipment is back near Kalamazoo, so my shop time is going to be pretty limited until I get the house done and find a place to get my equipment set up here. I have been over to Ralph's shop, so if I get too lonesome I can go over there and see what he's working on.
January 7, 201214 yr Author Roy, sounds like you are really taking on a big project. Hope it goes well for you so you can get settled in and working in the shop for fun. Tell Ralph we said hello when you go by there. That is one shop I would love to get to just run by and hang out.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
January 7, 201214 yr Been documenting the process but will hold off posting until I see if the darned thing is going to work and if it does, how well.SQ said:Lewis,That sounds like a great project.  I'm looking forward to seeing it. Got any pictures to share?  SQLewis Kauffman said:Happiness is wood chips flying!
January 7, 201214 yr Just finishing up a trammel for a router to cut some circles for band saw boxes I'll send to Japan. The plans for the trammel are from Hylton's Router Magic. Pretty slick. Can do 1" up to 8" circles/holes. From there, my larger trammel takes over.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. January 7, 201214 yr just back from our first farmers market/craft show of the year. It's a small town and a newly developing show so we only had 5 vendors exhibiting for 4 hours today. the draw was about 25-30 customers with many asking if I'll be back on a regular basis. This tells me there is interest but not alot of available funds right after the holidays. with the newness and low customer turnout I did okay @ about $150 in sales with 2 custom orders for a bowl and cheese tray to boot.so for my shop time this week I need to make these 2 items as well as building inventory for 2 shows coming at the end of month. Both shows appear to be larger with one drawing 2500 visitors last year.Round Barn WoodCrafts, Plymouth WIroundbarnwoodcrafts@hotmail.com
January 8, 201214 yr Peddling, The electrician did not show up yesterday. Actually did get some of the duct work re-done since I had re-arrange a couple of tools in the shop. Just need the electrician at this point. Need the table saw to make my 2 drawer bottom on another work bench and to make what I would call an extension table to use it as outfeed table between the table saw and workbench. It would give room for 4 drawers to store saw blades, table insert, push stick, feather boards and miter gauge.   Wayne E
January 8, 201214 yr Author Well I got the dados routed and the bottom cut for the cedarnchest.ngot it all glued and clamped. I was also working on making some new rockers for an antique rocker. Every thing was going good and I was almost done. I was routing the bottom of the new rocker and I guess I was taking a bit more wood than I thought and it caused it to split along the grain of the white oak. Thought I was going to have this rocker out of the shop tomorrow. Now I have got to make another rocker to go on the rocker. Oh well things happen. I'll just start a new one. My SIL came over and turned a couple of pens. He is getting pretty good. He did an antler pen tonight. I'll have to get him to send me a picture as I forgot to take on before they left.
