January 20, 201214 yr Well I hope you all made it past Friday the 13th without any serious problems in the shop. It was a nice long weekend here and got quite a bit done. But that is now in the past and it is on to a new weekend. I finished the cedar chest I was working on last weekend. Just need to spray the finish on and get it delivered. This weekend I plan on working on my shop air filtration system. I got the motor on the blower checked out and an electrician identified the three speeds for me so I can get it wired and mounted in a box and get it up and running in the shop. That will be my main job this weekend. My mother-n-law is having her 97th birthday this weekend and we are all planning a big party for her. Lots of family will be in so I won't get to spend as much time in the shop but that is okay as I enjoy being with them. I'll post some pictures later, but I also got four glue up jigs made for my cutting boards. Thanks to Allen Worsham for the inspiration. He sent me one of his and it works great, so I made four more. What about you all, what do you plan on working on the shop, house or on the HDL this weekend? John Moody John Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
January 20, 201214 yr Man, that's a good looking chest. Gotta be careful where one says that. I'll be finishing up the little band saw boxes and prepping walnut blanks for the larger ones. Some one gave me a triangular shaped walnut burl about 5" thick and 15-16" per side. REALLY rough! A router planer box is in order, methinks. That burl will yield two of the boxes. I'll have to glue up some 5/4 for the other ones. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
January 20, 201214 yr That is a great looking chest John!  I have a shaving set to put together and will be starting an optical illusion cutting board with a different pattern I found on lumberjocks. I'm trying to decide which pattern appears to have the most pronounced bulge. The one with the round pegs will be easier but the square pegged one will be easier to match materials. I can only find birch and walnut dowel. I'm not sure if Birch is suitable for cutting board material. The square pegs can be machined from whatever stock I'm using for the field pieces. http://api.ning.com:80/files/rDukjBiVOPnHbnviDe0L*IRLM-04R8wSV*ON1d*f6qAdPgX6n0M1QzNEjwrcqd8-IItkT2lsiTAKPVxLsLEirrd6sr1CjgQZ/bulge2.gif' target="_self">
January 20, 201214 yr The one to the left seems to bulge more.....that is, until I look at the one on the right. I saw them on LJs and got dizzy. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
January 20, 201214 yr Gene being dizzy isn't the best thing to be when using a sharp knife but I like the pattern. I've been experimenting with differing arrangements of the pegs to get a ripple effect but haven't quite come up with the right pattern. I need a drawing program that would make it easier. I'm using MS EXCEL.
January 20, 201214 yr John, I really like the chest! There's heavy snow forecast for Indiana so it is shop time. I have an order for ten oak pocket watch displays that I'll be finishing plus I just got an order for two burial flag cases that need to be finished by next friday. I also need to build stock but that'll have to wait.Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
January 20, 201214 yr Author Mike, I think it is the one on the left also. Those are pretty wild patterns. It will be interesting to see.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

January 21, 201214 yr Yesterday is unplug the tools and move them out of the way from the wall for the electrician and took items off the peg board on that wall. Still had some saw dust under the tools cabinets when I move them so i clean that up. just trying to make life a little easier for them when they come. The electrician came this morning to put in a 220 volt plug outlet for the table saw plus 2 more 110 volts outlet. When they left I started putting everything back in place. Got to looking I decided to switch my Delta 12 1/2 planer and Delta 6 inch joiner around. Since I had re-arrange the tools few weeks ago, I knew I would need to re-work my so call dust system for the tools. Mostly just taking out one blast gate and moving the rest down one side about 1 foot so I could hook up the Grizzly 14 inch bandsaw and Grizzly table saw to the duct system. Then proceeded to attached the male and female plug to abt 10 ft 10 ga cord for the table saw. For some reason there a screw on the male plug just will not tighten. So I'm not able to test run the table saw tonight.    In the morning I'll go get another male plug and get it installed.   Wayne E Wayne E
January 21, 201214 yr Author Man Wayne that is a real bummer that you couldn't test tonight. Hope it works out tomorrow. I'm excited to find out how you like the new saw.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
January 21, 201214 yr Hey Wayne, Is that the round plug with the three screws? (maybe four, I can't remember) I fooled with one last month for over an hour. Finally found out that it MUST be set back in exactly the same orientation that it was taken off. There are no grooves or tabs to tell you if it's right. If you have a different plug, ignore the above. Keep at it, buddy. That saw will be hummin' soon. Gene This type of plug I have never used before. It black and is round as for looking at it where the plug prongs are but it sort of longer than the others I used. Not sure how exactly to describe it.  It had 2 screws you take out. Then sort of open it up kind of like opening a book. Then Inside up front where the prongs would be is place where you inst6alled the 3 wires.  Then when all the wires are screwed in you close the case back in and re-installed the 2 screws. It was the only type I saw @ lowe's for 220 volts. hope this works this is the link for the plug http://www.lowes.com/pd_354089-334-5666BK-SP-L_4294753703_4294937087_?productId=3416606&Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&pl=1¤tURL=%2Fpl_Electrical%2BPlugs%2BConnectors_4294753703_4294937087_%3Fpage%3D3%26Ns%3Dp_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&facetInfo= Wayne E Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' January 21, 201214 yr Author Thanks Gene, Mike, Ron and Lew for the compliments on the chest. If you all get a chance post some progress pictures of your weekend projects. John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
January 21, 201214 yr Not much progress on my project. I couldn't find any 6/4 walnut or purple heart at my regular supplier. I have one other source with reasonable prices that I'll check out today.
January 22, 201214 yr Ahhh, so. I was describing one where the plate that surrounds the prongs is removed to get to the connectors.Good luck with yours.Wayne Ellington said:Gene Howe said:Wayne E
January 22, 201214 yr This "Folding Step Stool" has been on my bench for a few weeks. Due to the cold weather, it's made several trips from the garage to the basement. Made this one for our Great Grandson. Harry BrinkBulldog WoodworkingMontana
